360 Failure rate has lowered to 16%

I think the highest estimates never exceeded 20%, which is still high even with a small sample group. I know I've heard of some people who have gone through 4 or 5 systems, but I also know some people who bought their console close to launch and they're still ticking, so it's luck of the draw basically, and at most there's a 20% chance you'll get a dud.

I like those odds... :lol

Wasn't it supposed to lower to under 5% or are they including older 360's?

Just got mine back yesterday, and have been playing Halo 3 and other games nonstop, with no problems except one. Whenever I put Guitar Hero III in the system sounds like a chainsaw. But only for that one game.

Weird about the noise. Hopefully it will keep working for ya this time.

Estimates were as high as 33%, at one point. It appears the newer chips really are helping, though.

I hope by the time that I get around to buying one, that they will all work perfectly...

GH2 and 3 are hard games for the system's eye laser to read actually. Next to Oblivion and Halo 3

Estimates by whom though? I heard that percent thrown around by several less credible sources, but I never heard any official source quote that stat.

You could buy one now and not worry.

Then why don't Oblivion and Halo 3 sound like a chainsaw!?
Oblivion sounds horrible whenever I put it in my 360.

That's not an "official" statement of any sort.

That was just a poll done by "daily-tech" that was mostly based of off anonymous "insider" tips, a.k.a. hearsay. Even if the statements they received were true the article doesn't say the specifics on the methodology of the poll. They poked around some retail warranty personnel and found one or two who were willing to pin the failure rate of the 360 at about a third. For all the article tells us it is quite possible they encountered several people who were willing to go on record saying the failure rate was 5% or 10%, but decided to leave it out of the article. In the end, It lacks credibility. Daily Tech is not a manufacturer, they're not a department of Microsoft, they're not even a retailer, all they did was ask some people who do work in these areas, and got a mixed bag of results.

I think it was the Best Buy contact they quoted who pegged the failure rate at "a quarter to a third." If they were reduced to using this guy's guess to back up their proposed failure rate, I really question how much fact the article was based on.

Oh trust me, every copy of Oblivion and Halo 3 I test a 360 on, it will sound like it's cutting lumber.

But I have been playing Halo 3 nonstop, and played Oblivion last summer for 150 hours, and no chainsaw noise. Only from Guitar Hero III.
