We finally have some sales figures for one of the recently launched next-gen consoles. Nintendo today announced that over 600,000 Wii systems were sold in the Americas in the first 8 days after its November 19 launch. Since the Wii is still sold out in the US, that gives us an indication of how many Wiis Nintendo has shipped so far. Nintendo recently promised 1 million units by the end of the year, so that means we can expect a little under 400,000 in future shipments.

The Wii's flagship title, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, has sold over 454,000 copies, meaning more than 75% of Wii owners picked up the game with their system.

Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, commented on the Wii's success:

"Even with sales already in excess of 600,000 units, demand continues to exceed supply, as it's clear this is one of the 'gotta-have' products for the holiday season. We've shipped retailers several times the amount of hardware the other company was able to deliver for its launch around the same time -- and we still sold out.

Given the inclusive nature of Wii game play, we're seeing this new form of video gaming is already a huge hit with gamers and newcomers alike. It continues to be a phenomenal launch."

Nintendo included one other figure with the report - the console sales, along with first-party software and accessories sales, have made the Wii into a $190 million business in the Americas.

Not quite the one million anticipated, but hopefully they can manage 2 million in the USA by the end of the year.

I'm only mildly surprised at the non- 1:1 ratio of Zelda/Wii.

Well at the store I was at there were less Zeldas than Wiis. I mean, they can only sell as many games as they do systems, and you can't assume everyone who buys a system is going to buy the game. I'm kinda sad they didn't sell out though. I thought they did.

What didn't sell out? Both Wii and Zelda both sold out.

One reason the attachment rate was lower than expected is due to scalpers, the other is due to undershipment of Zelda. So.. :)

They didn't manage to get the full shipment out. They're replenishing off and on this week though. Some stores have alreayd received second and third shipments (locally - here).

Also, some of the non 1:1 ratios are things like my case, where I bought Zelda from the store I work at, but had to buy my Wii at another GameStop because I couldn't get it at my store. I'm sure other people had that happen as well.

That would still give it a 1:1 ratio though, even if you bought them in 2 different places

I see piles of Zelda Games at all the retailers down here. They had like 20 at Circuit City today alone! But it is an awesome game and a wonderful system. My kids just love it!

Well, for example, my Wal Mart only had 19 Zeldas and 20 systems. Odd.

I was just going to type exactly what you said! I wanna a friggin we but they are nowhere to be found
