According to a study, M-rated games sell best.

One of the more noteworthy findings from the study was that titles that received a M for Mature rating had the highest average review scores and the highest average gross sales in the US. These games accounted for 10 percent of the total amount of titles released, and were able to achieve their sales numbers despite "not being offered for sale at some major retailers."

But I have to wonder if any of these were based on percentages. If most games made are M, wouldn't it be natural for them to sell more? I wouldn't mind seeing a percentage based study. How many M-rated games sell vs. how many are actually released, etc.

Really? I thought most gamers were in the kids (teens and younger)...........I guess maybe it just feels that way because they are more annoying online. :lol

So does this mean an increase in the amount of M rated games to be released?

The average age of gamers has climbed into the mid-20's, so its not all that surprising, in terms of sales, although I find it weird that M rated games are reviewed so much higher...

I knew it! Science is on my side! :lol

Sorry....this was a theory I've had for a while so I guessed on it...

i tend to buy a lot of M rated games

not because they are rated M, or i would be a loser

but i also love e-t rated games

zelda, mario, metroid, skate, etc.

The percent of games produced that are rated M would make a big difference. But look at all of the hits of this gen and last gen, and look at all the M-rated ones.

God of War 1 and 2, Halo 1 and 2, Resident Evil 4, Gears of War, Ninja Gaiden... all rated M.

I don't even pay attention to the rating scale anymore when it comes to games I play. But I am not surprised at all about the sucess of "M" rated games. I think it's because a larger percentage of gamers are in their mid 20s (Nintendo Generation, UNITE!!).

It makes sense now that I think about it.

Last gen (PS2, Xbox, GC) I had more E and T games than M. I think in my entire collection I had maybe 5.

This gen I have far more M-rated games. Probably because most of the good 360 games are M. :D
