Action Replay question

I'm thinking about getting one of these to mess around with some of my old games. But I'm wondering, since when you use one of these things the little cartridge goes in the memory card slot, does that means you can't play off of a saved game in any way shape or form?
 
First off it might help if you let us know what system you plan to get this for. :lol
 
I'm gonna' randomly picture what your talking about. You can play a game at any point regardless of what it is. If your memorycard is in, then you can save onto the card and load your saved games off it. I have no idea if that helps. What system are you talkin' about?
 
GameCube AR is pretty easy...insert the special memory card into the 2nd slot...put in the disc..and follow the directions on the screen...but at ALL times..leave that memory card in the 2nd slot! never remove it until you are finished
