Sega Dreamcast Anyone beat SC and have all the characters unlocked?

I have started playing this game again and plan on unlocking all the characters that I can. I also understand that you will get new arena's as you play longer. Is this correct?

Well to get the arenas, you have to play the mission mode. There really was no way to play for a long period of time to unlock something as I remember.
 
I think I played this and unlocked a couple of characters and stop playing, moved onto Marvel vs Capcom 2.
