Arc The Lad: Twilight of the Spirits

Today a bunch of guys and I went to some local Chinese resteraunt, and while they were all finishing up eating, I snuck out to go to the Game Spot next door. I walked up to the clerk and asked, "Do you sell Genesis games??" I got the usual "you're insane" look and he said, "No." I was like, okay. So I decided to kill some time and browse the PS2 section.

Nothing seemed to jump out at me, so I was ready to just bail. Then I saw this game. Arc the Lad. Anyone ever play this game?? I have yet to pop it in and give it a try.

If I like it, I will use this topic to ask my customary stupid questions. If I don't, I'll bring it back and that will be it.

@ BV, about that Genesis... I wants!!

I have it. It's not one of the best games out there, but it's fun to play through. The character's are easy to get to know and the storyline's pretty cool. There's barely any voice-over and only a few cut scenes. I liked the unique battle system. Let me know what you think when you try it out. :)

Last night I decided to make the time to play this game. I had three games that I bought over the last week that I hadn't tested yet. So I dropped this one into the Black Beauty and started her up. And I must say that I have mixed feelings...

The one thing that bugs me with an RPG is when there are no voices. Just text. I can live with it if the game has a great story and plays well. This game does both, in my opinion. I was hooked at 10:00 last night even though with my work scedule nightmares and my inability to stay awake. It's a great game. And I will go back and actually attempt to beat it.

The battle system is weird and at first I couldn't understand it. But I picked up fast. I didn't even have to bust out the destruction booklet. :D It's very unique. But I still like the traditional turn-based attacks. Oh well!!

I don't like how some of the cut-scenes there's voices, and others there's text. There's alot of twists in the story which is always an added plus though (although I won't say any since IDK how far you are). I love the battle system on it. It's really unique and fun to use. It actually makes you use strategy as well.

I am not far. I just got back from teh plateau where the old weird guy is wandering around. The Defense Corps have been dispatched to rescue the miners from some attack. So, like I said. Not far.

Yeah I picked this up a few weeks back as well for $9.99 used at Gamestop, I haven't had much of a chance to play it yet but the little I did play I couldn't really figure out the battle system too well.

It's somewhat easy to figure out. What's hard is trying to not picturethe turn-based attack style like FFX and other RPGs.

Basically you have to move your guys closer to the enemy. If they are still too far, do something to draw them in. Once you start your attack, it's all good. Everything falls into place and it gets easy.

Yeah but when I moved close I was the one gettin' the snot beat outta me. :lol I enjoy RPG's I'm just not that good at them. For all the RPG's I have, I've started them all, I've only finished 2. FFIX and Parasite Eve. I am very close to finishing FFX but haven't gotten around to it.

I'll get back to it and figure it out. :D

My problem with RPG's is that I lose interest in them very easily. I have many RPG's that I have started and a few hours into them I just have no desire to play anymore. Morrowind is a perfect example. I started the game, absolutely loved the game, but now I havent played it in a about a month. The game is just so huge I dont have fun. Some people think its one of the best RPG's ever.

Don't move your guys close at all. Trust me.

Use this time to power your guys' attacks and defenses up. Then, when one of the enemies is within reach, bring 2 or 3 guys over (depending on it's idividual toughness) and pummel it. It works like a charm. :D

Odd. I used the opposite approach with about the same success. But I'll try that approach as the game gets tougher.

Okay last night just before passing out I decided to throw in Ar the Lad and explore some more. Well, I'm stuck in the town. There's a guard at the main gate, and the gate to the Castle Ruins are locked. And there's an old man stuck on the other side.

My problem is I can't find the stupid key!! And I felt too dizzy (wonder why) to go any farther and shut it off without saving.

Can anyone help???? :-[

Um, the first town. The one where what's-his-name's mom lives in. I'm that guy Lord something-or-other. Sorry for the lack of details. I have been playing thsi game between all the other ones I have been playing.

lol alright..so you're Kargh...try going to the tavern...to the bottom right of it..there should be a guy that's the leader of the army (or whatever they call it there...I haven't played it in a while to tell ya the truth ahha)

Tried it. He just asks me if I want to know about the Castle Ruins or the Defense Corps. I've tried both and he won't give me anything. Can I slash him with my sword? :lol

Haha I wish....did you try going into your house n talking to your mother?

I'm about to start a new game jus to see what you have to do. :lol
