Are "Final Fantasy" Monster Battles Too Short?

Hi People!

Earlier today I went down to Future Shop to look around at the games and an employee I know came up to me to say hi.We got to talking about video games and I mentioned how I can't wait until "FF XIII" comes out. After I said that he kind of shook his head and rolled his eyes,I said to him what's up,he replied that he doesn't like the way battles go.

I asked him what he meant, and he said that in every Final Fantasy that he has played, that the battles end too fast.Usually one strike from a sword or other weapon often kills the monsters so fast,it's not very realistic, the fights are too short.I've played a lot of Final Fantasy titles, and when I think about it hard enough,I think that there is some truth in what he's saying. How about you?

God Bless,
MR.KAZ

well it depends in the area that you are and the type of monsters that you fight.... i mean there's always a point in final fantasy where there are random battles that take some time to fight, but honestly why drag the player for so long in a battle with weak monsters? the same can be said with other RPGs. i think short or long it doesn't matter as long as it plays good.

PS- a hit with a huge sword like cloud's would kill anyone with just 1 hit

I personally like short battles when it comes to RPG's, which is why I loved Tales Of Symphonia's battles. They were quick, but very fun. You take a game like Dragon Quest 8 who's random battles are pretty long and it quickly gets very tiresome. IMO, quicker is better.

Hi Zidart!

I hear ya when it comes to Cloud's sword,it's bigger then he is! :lol

I'm an RPGer who puts A LOT of weight on the battle system when I'm deciding whether I like the game or not. Mainly because it's what you're gonna really be doing the most of in the game, as that's how you get stronger. I personally don't like slow battles, which is probably why I just couldn't get my characters in FFX maxed out sadly. :( It still is my favorite Final Fantasy, because the battles were simply fun but just lasted too long.

Hi aleeock157! W'sup?

Slow battles weren't your problem,it's the stupid grid system.

No, I absolutely adore the grid system, and I wish that more games out there would impliment something of the sort.

Seems to me, Kaz, that you are the only one who has a problem with the grid system. So, I am pretty sure the problem for Aleeock was slow battles such as she said, not the grid system.
