I'm referring about going back to the NES days or maybe before. I spoke with a coworker who finds himself doing the same. I'm spending more and more time with these older games. Particularly the Turbo Grafx 16 and NES 8-bit gaming with also a leaning toward 16-bit. And I know that it is not for nostalgic reasons, I never had an NES back then. There is just something there about the gameplay that grabs me. I have been seeking out and purchasing TG16 and NES games lately. The Turbo Grafx I did have back then and that game system has always been a favorite. The NGCD has only been for the last couple of years in my possession, but it has already become an obsession. My PS2 and Game Cube continues to gather dust. And I have no interest in the present day systems, Wii, PS3, or 360. There is just something there about the older games, for me, that just endures the test of time. They are still fun and addictive. I get so involved with these systems that I suddenly find myself thinking, “Man when was the last time I took my PS2 for a spin? I can't remember.” When it comes to any CD gaming, my NGCD and Dreamcast pulls harder on me than my PS2 or Game Cube.
Is there a particular past gaming system that still pulls hard on any of you? Pulling you away from the present day Gaming Era? Do you suddenly find yourself waking up in front of you old NES, pad in hand, while you look over and find your Wii, 360, or PS3 sets there with a layer of dust?
If so, why is this? What is it about those games? Was it because those systems had such limitations that there was a total focus on the gameplay elements? Or am I just a twisted gamer?
