Backwards compatability issues?

Okay everybody knows that PS1 games recieve a warm reception with the PS2 console. But is it all just a gimmick?

Yesterday, while laying the smackdown on everybodies favorite seven year old PS1 RPG game, I noticed some issues. At one point, the game froze, and I had to restart it (lucky for me that I saved just before it), and on certain battle scenes where the background would show up, but the characters would take a while to show up. Thes problems never occured when my PS1 was employed to handle the duties. Has anyone else had issues playing PS1 games on the PS2? And will these same problems occur with the "all powerful" PS3?

Yes, not all titles are compatible with the PS2. The same will happen with the PS3, but with "firmware" updates that should be fixable. It will never be 100%, but it can still be good.

I figured as much. Because my LoD froze again. I'd win a battle, go to the level up screen, and then nothing after that. Just a black screen. I guess I'll just use a rock from the bak yard to keep the lid closed on my PS1...

Well, the thing is, the playstation 2 uses a different driver for psx games. I experience the same issues as you Dart, games will freeze and some of my games are literally unplayable unless I play them on the original psx. Unfortunately there's no real solution to this :-\
