Right now, the government is looking to block all retail websites that sell video games rated 15MA+, thus stopping children from purchasing these games. The only problem is, these sites will be blocked for all...not just those that are under the legal age. That means that anyone that tries to visit a retail site to purchase one of these games will be met with a 'content blocked' message.

How in the world does this solve a problem? Does the Australian government really think that video games are that bad?!

BOLLOCKS!!!!!! ABSOLUTE BOLLOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This wont pass! Despite the complaining mother (who are likely why this has been put through), this wont be stood for. Us gamers are many... the government is small compared to us. >_<

Dude what is up with Australia? Didn't they ban like ALL forms of weapons, too? I'm talking BB guns, sling shots, knives, etc..? Do they have no faith in peoples judgment and self responsibility?

Surely, they have more important things to think about.Don't they?

Godspeed,
Kaz

That seems A TAD extreme seeing that the adult gamers are getting punished for the parent not being able to control what their kid is doing...the parents should just raid their kids rooms and check who their kids are friends with often..

Yeah, but no-one will ever get around to doing that. And even then, parents can't just shelter their kids from the outside world so that they don't get their hands on "inappropriate" material.

And even if this law went up, there's still no stopping mature rated games being sold to kids.
There's no way this crap will pass.

Well we have problems here in the U.S. to trust me big problems I mean afterall Hillary Clinton one of the most vocal critics of violent video games in our government has moved up to Sec. of State and while that position won't allow her to do anything to us directly it does give her alot more clout.

The bureaucracy cannot handle things like this. The problem is untouchable for them and is something that cannot be regulated by legislation. The best that can be done to such a situation is the rating system and the parents taking personal responsibility and getting involved with their children. Can you imagine using the same logic for everything that a kid can get a hold of in the marketplace? ::) Let's treat everyone in the country like kids.

And I am speaking from the viewpoint of a parent who is a gamer and has gotten involved when raising my own children during that point in my life.
