Battle of the Programs!

Alright, I'd like to get into the CG world, and was wondering what everyone thought was their favorite image editor. I'm not looking to spend money, so I'm sorta glancing at the Gimp for 2D and Blender (had it on my PC before) for 3D. Both of those programs are freeware, so that's always an advantage.

Post up your thoughts!

Uh..... beats me :lol

I'm a complete newbie to this whole thing. I'd like to make cool images, like banners and stuff (which is where the Gimp or otherwise would fit in), but would also like to make 3D pictures and animations (which is where Blender or otherwise would fit in).

I use GIMP, and it seems to be a very powerful image editing tool. It doesn't seem as "user friendly" as Paint Shop Pro, but it is free!

I haven't really taken the time to learn how to use the program to its maximum potential yet though, and I couldn't really tell you how well it stacks up against Photoshop, as I've never used it.

Do you have any tutorials or anything else that would help me get started with it?

I'm planning to download it soon, but would like to know how to do things once it's installed.

The only good tutorials for it I could find were actually on the Gimp website:

I haven't tried any of the stuff out yet though, I mainly just play around with all of the filters gimp has.

Yeah, I had it downloaded. Then my computer was eaten by spyware that installed itself through all the spyware-blocking software that I had so I was forced to reformat.

While trying to uninstall some of that junk I sent a very angry e-mail to the one company when they wanted feedback of why I uninstalled.
