Bill Gates Makes Me Chuckle.

http://kotaku.com/343235/gates-360-to-be-the-most-reliable-console-available

Just a teaser:
Well we certainly had to apologize to our uses about a number of box that had to be replaced. We did that for free for all of those people, we've gotten a lot of positive feedback about the way we handled it. We've got incredible reliability on the new work we've done. Our commitment is that it will be the most reliable video game box out there. People really love the Xbox because of the content, but we've got to make sure that the hardware never stands in the way of that.

Again makes me chuckle. ^_^

i dont get the funny part, really i dont

sure, the 360 had one major issue, which is fixed now. i hate to bring it up, and i dont want to start an argument, but i would say having no good games a bigger issue than a free repair for everyone.

Hines FTW.

Did you even read the article hines? How bout him saying he's proud of Vista? And wouldn't The "most reliable" box be one that doesn't have server issues with their online service?

Also Hines no one brought up the PS3 so don't even mention it in the thread.

Not exactly funny, but the ironic part is that Windows is infamous for crashing, and the 360 had a failure rate of 33%, in its first few years, and they're saying the 360 will be reliable. They don't exactly have a great track record, when it comes to reliability.

That is more pathetic than funny. :lol

windows is great, it got a bad reputation because hardcore pc nerds diss it because its "popular"

vista is fine too, just needs a few updates

and 360 is reliable, now. it had one problem, and thats it. at least microsoft can make up their mind on a controller design!

and the xbox live server issue isnt a big deal either, its a problem, they didnt do it on purpose. play your games single player, the way they were meant to be played ;)

Hines.. you have no idea about the world of OS's if you think that hardcore pc nerds diss it because its "popular

XD thats why so many games now have a short single player and then when you get online it gets so much better.

Hey Bill, how about not charging me $108 for my system overheating, then lying to me about the warranty from my 2nd 360? (90 days apparently..not a YEAR)....so I had to dish out $108 to get the 3rd one fixed and THEN they grant me 1 Year warranty...ya prick...

.......they reimbursed everyone who paid for the red ring of death....

XD Online modes ruining games?!?! XDXD

if you want single player go play a RPG, Action/Adventure, or Platforming game. Online modes are making games into a sport. Making playing video games more fun and having the abiltity to make friends and network over video games. Sure there isn't as many LANs as there used to be but, you can have tourneys online and see who's the best around the world. Saying online is "ruining" games is such an exaggerated post.

Yeah, no. Windows hasn't innovated in over 10 years. The only reason they still have the OS market is because businesses need to be compatible with one another, and it's the best known OS, so someone who isn't exactly well informed about OS's will buy Windows, just through brand recognition.

They have such a strangle hold on the market, it's near impossible for a competitor to get in, and be successful (the exceptions here would be Apple and Linux, but they have pretty small market shares). Combine this with their lack of innovation, and they single-handedly caused the OS market to become stagnant.

We'll see about that...

In the past, there were epic failure rates, and I'm talking about past reputation.

I don't even get what this has to do with anything we're talking about, or what you're getting at, but I'm sure it's some kind of dig at the PS3, so I'm just gonna say keep on topic.
Hinesmdc said:

Doesn't make it any better.

It's another reliability issue. Saying "play single player" doesn't make the month of problems with XBL go away.
Hinesmdc said:

Apparently not...

I agree with Hines, about games getting shorter though. It sucks. I think it's more the greed of the developers that's doing it, but I want longer games.

EDIT: Holy crap that's a lot of quotes. XD

no, its not. gaming is about sitting in a room with all your friends, screaming and yelling, messing with their controllers, and just generally making good memories. its not about sitting my yourself on your couch in a dark room every once in a while saying into your mic "i got the flag."

single player games are becoming shorter and less polished as a result. that is garbage, comeplete garbage! single player modes are where the great things happen! famous moments in gaming history happen when......aerith dies! or when you save peach from bowser for the very first time. they dont happen in post game chatrooms, saying "d00d i owned you guys"

nowadays, when the press reviews a game, it will actually get a lower score if it doesnt have online multiplayer! rediculous! games should be rated based on single player adventures, meeting new characters (not just little kids on their older brother's xboxes) and experience classic moments. online gaming constantly frustrates me and i personally wish it doesnt exist. so many online features are being implemented into games, that people without highspeed internet or xbox live will eventually get bored with all of these unusable features. more development time should be spent on campaigns.

EDIT - @cherry, linux is free, it has no market share

We're talking single player. Your friends aren't involved in that either.

And, as for what you're saying, single player games "becoming less polished" is the fault of the developers, not online. If they would actually make the single player better, instead of relying only on online, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

A certain percentage of PC's use Linux, rather than other OS's. That gives it a market share.

1. And nothing happens in the online? I could think of more great memories in online games. Go watch a Esports competition sometime and not Counter Strike.

2. Not according to Radio Shack :lol

3. As for not games lacking in single player again go hit up a RPG or something instead of FPS.

4. @Cherry: Don't just blame it on the devs. Blame it on the avg. gamer that wants instant gratification.

Oye...

He's not talking about you. He's saying games are getting shorter due to the fact that casual gamers want instant gratification, not a long drawn out experience.
Hinesmdc said:
radioshack......what??
Yeah, that one kind of flew right over my head too. :lol

Their selling Ubuntu Linux CDs for $10 at Radio Shack... Well I think until me and my friends took a couple hundred CDs of Debian, Ubuntu, Knoppix, and Slackware and stood at the corner with Techno and just handed them out.

Um, I wouldn't call you average. You at least have some background in games. The avg. gamers are the ones that play maybe 1-5 games in 6 months (from purchasing games, not including rentals)
