CBS will pay $1.8 billion in cash to become the proud parent of CNet and its spawn GameSpot in a deal that's expected to close in the third quarter pending shareholder and regulatory approval. The acquisition values the company at $11.50 per share, a 45% premium over CNet's closing stock price on Wednesday, reports the Associated Press. Sheesh! Well, CBS, you've just been robbed "welcome to the internets" ... but as The Washington Post puts it, you've certainly got your work cut out for you not to become known as "CNet Buy Sunk."

What does this mean for Gamespot!? Will my account be wiped and become the property of dumb CBS (at least they own Price is Right, but why did they get rid of their Paramount Kings Dominion and Tomb Raider branding?)) My gamespot blog?!

All older games. I haven't written a FAQ in awhile. Games like Tony Hawk 4 for the GBA, Red Steel for the Wii, and Billy Hatcher for the GC.

I doubt CBs will tamper with things like that. This acquisition was done so, and for such a high price, because the current model is working, they won't drastically change any of it. IGN is owned by the same entity that owns FOX (Newscorp) and while IGN has undergone many changes over the years, many of the changes probably would have been made even if they remained independent.

I agree with Stealth here. I doubt this will cause any major changes to the sites themselves, as they are among the biggest gaming sites on the internet. Don't mess with success.

My god, is there anything Rupert Murdoch doesn't own? >_>
