Certainly not classic?
I don't think today's rpg music is any different or at all inferior to music from older rpgs. Unless you're just a hardcore Nobuo Uematsu or Mitsuda fanboy and refuse to like anything else, maybe.
Personally, my favorite is Motoi Sakuraba and a lot of his stuff is more recent, like the Golden Sun series, some of the Tales games, some of the Star Ocean games, and most recently that I played, Eternal Sonata (which btw also contained music from Chopin).
But speaking of Uematsu, FFX is one of my favorite rpg soundtracks, and FFX is pretty recent.
Overall, I guess I just really don't have a preference for music from a certain period.
