Just a question I've been wondering about, with so much emphasis on graphical muscle that these next gen machines can produce do you think the great storylines in RPGs is in Jeopardy?
No, not at all. The good RPG games will still draw their strength from the story while taking advantage of the advances in the looks department. FFX is an excellent example of this IMO. A new look for the FF games and a strong and touching storyline to boot.
I don't think jrpgs will suffer. Square Enix, especially, prides itself on having beautiful games with epic storylines.
I would be more worried about rpgs from western developers, like BioWare (Jade Empire & KOTOR). Western based companies seem to focus more on graphics and gameplay than storyline.
Well, maybe not silly, but at the very least cliched. If you don't believe me I'd suggest reading this (http://pc.ign.com/articles/697/697385p1.html) and then try to tell me it does not completely describe every RPG you've ever played.

Eh, the same can be said for a lot of things. Sports games are like that. Different teams, slightly different styles, but the same objective. Most RPGs do have the same plot. But it's often the different means to achieve the same ends that makes them great.
Back to the topic. I hope that the next gen console developers don't get lazy...
