I should be good to go for the 2nd to highest graphics standard.... I believe.

I need to serously get a new gfx card, but got it all sorted out atleast, it works fine for most games with okay graphics but it's over a year old and was cheap then when i bought it.

good gfx card is about 90 bucks now i believe, i have tv tuner sererate so don't need all in wonder.

ya those with newer 128 meg cards sould be good for 800x600 at least

4 quality setting,

640x480
800x600
1280x768 (not sure but around there)
1600x#### (again not sure but around there)

lol you bought the good one and I got the discount one because I never thought I would be pc gaming in the first place.

yeah... I always buy high end graphics cards :(

my laptop has a 128 meg ATI Fire GL2....

but... I want to try doom 3......
then again... I just don't want it to ruin how I think of Doom2 (my favorite all time game).

I have:

Nvidia Geforce3
384 megabytes of RAM
Pentium III 599 megahertz

You guys think I have a chance in h-e-double hockey sticks that I could run Doom 3? Or should I just stick to the older titles like Warcraft III and Quake?

Quake III runs perfect on my PC.

I ended up getting it... and it's weird though, I have all the requirements except the processor, only 1 GHZ.. and it still runs decently.. oh well

From what I've played the game is completely awesome. I'd probably upgrade my entire PC just to play this one. The graphics are just great. THe lowest level is better than probably all the graphically good games of today. Gameplay is good too.. theres a nice creep factor when you go through the game. Enviroment makes it even nicer.

i don't think it's possible to play the game at its top settings, but it is extremely demanding.
very cute though

Anyone with an amd based motherboard and a non intel chipset (via is the biggest one) NEEDS to update their gart drivers to get their agp video card to work to it's fullest potential.  via has a 4 in 1 driver that's A MUST.  High end games (heck even diablo 2) wouldn't work worth a crap with my all in wonder 9700 pro until I updated the gart drivers.  doom works fine with my card, I can't run the game on it's highest settings w/o a bit of lag but my crappy 2000+ mp processor and 512 mb of ddr ram and that 128 mb video card is doing it's thing w/o problem.

Abit NF7s rev 2. mobo
2 x 512 mb dual channel ddr ram
9800 pro video card
xp 3200 + processor

just built this computer for a guy ON A BUDGET......... Doom runs in ultra quality fine just fine on this machine

granted the video card and the ram is a bit on the expensive side but everything else was fairly cheap

I mean I'm still using the 32 bit board/processors and am well under the 3 ghz processor speed.

If anyone has a fairly up to date machine and one of the latest video cards (we're talking the newest batch of video cards that just came out) doom should have no problem in the highest quality.

If you're having problems deciding what part of your machine you need to upgrade to run doom your biggest gain is video card, next biggest is ram, then after that processor. Belive me, I've seen this game run on a p3 w/o being all jerky, on the lowest setting of course, but jeez, it's a p3........

I tried Doom 3 on my system, and could get the second highest graphics thing with around 25-30 fps.  That was the "demo" (you know, the leaked version) that I played for about 2 hours before deleting.  I'm sure, with the retail version, I could get higher than that.

Pentium IV 2.8 GHz 800Mhz FSB
512 MB PC2700 RAM (I plan to get 1 gig of PC3200)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB (using newest Omega Drivers)

I would've tried the highest setting, but my monitor doesn't go that high :p
