I just started playing this yesterday. Has anyone else played this yet? So far it seems really good, but I'm not used to it yet after coming off of KH2. The battles look very diverse and promising. I'll let you all know how I'm progressing as I continue. :)

Dragon Quest VIII is absolutely awesome. It's not for everyone, but those it's for it blows you away. It's beautiful, with a breathtaking aural landscape. There's no other way to put it. Dragon Quest VIII is a marvel of the (very) traditional Japanese RPG experience.
 
Yeah, and I'm actually not dreading going into battles which are sometimes most annoying in alot of games. I actually use the whistle command to bring fights to me!
 
Yes! The battles are absolutely a blast. I found my self just waiting to see that next new enemy and get that extra bit of XP. The enemies are so well animated it's like a dream.
 
Can anyone tell me if this game is like Golden Sun for the GBA? I know its on the PS2 and everything but I just watched a movie on the game and it looked very similar. If it is I might have to check this game out.
 
Do you mean in the sense that it's a Japanese-style role playing game? Yeah, it's a lot like Golden Sun in that respect. It's a very traditional title. I'd recommend it.
 
I just watched the Gamespot Video Review on it, it looked great. It seems like my type of game.
 
Buy it man! It was my surprise purchase of the year! I was just knocked off my block. :-)
 
Yeap....This game is fabulous. I was blown away in about 5 minutes, and it just keeps getting funner and funner.
 
So far i'm on the Aladdin part, about 20 hours into the game.

I used to hate KH too, but recently I gave it a second chance and it's a really good game.

Is it actually called Dragon Quest VIII in the US? Here it's called Dragon Quest: The Journey of the Cursed King.

Anyway can't wait to play this.
 
I'm rather surprsied they kept the Dragon "Quest" part of the name. I love it. I always have called this series DQ.
