I don't think that anyone would be surprised to hear that the Nintendo DS will end up being the US's best-selling game system of 2007. Seriously, as much as Captain Obvious likes to help out with stating the obvious, this time he just flew by the Nintendo of America offices as it looked like they had this covered.

A press release from Nintendo says that more than 6 million Nintendo DS units have been sold this year through November, which is where they get their "one every five seconds" rate. The system's sales have increased every year since its 2004 launch.

"There's no letup in sight," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "Nintendo DS appeals strongly to both core and casual gamers, and its momentum is set to propel us into 2008."

The DS has also broken the Thanksgiving week sales record. The Gameboy Advance held the previous title, with 600,000 sold in one week. This year, the DS tops that with 650,000.

Between the DS and the Wii, I think casual gaming is here to stay. Hit the jump to read the full release.

But seriously, one every five seconds? Holy...yeah. That is insane, but when you have such a killer library for a low price, it becomes a bit more plausible.

And isn't it a handheld, not a console? Or are they handheld consoles?
 
I guess...I mean..I have the three consoles (360, PS3, Wii) and I also have a handheld (DS Lite). I've just never really heard anyone call it a console.

a handheld console :lol it was expected for the best handheld of this genreation
 
Yeah, the quote does say game system, but oh well. We know what the DS is anyways.

And when this thing came out... people ripped it... ripped it apart at 1st. People said it would fail in the light of the GBA. No one would play this system... would they? :lol

I seriously have to say... there is a decent amount of junk on the DS... but there are a ton of good titles. I know I have at least 30 DS games now.
Somehow, I always revert back to Tetris DS. That game is horribly addictive.

Yeah, I mean, Nintendo is crazy, two screens? Too much, it's gonna fail, and six games at launch? No one will buy it then.
