This is all unconfirmed at the moment, so don't read any further if you don't like to speculate about rumors. *coughNephcough* ;)

Unconfirmed reports from Japanese retail sources suggest that Nintendo is planning to roll out the DS handheld on November 4th priced at 19,000 Yen (140 Euro), followed by a US launch on November 11th at $179.95 (145 Euro).

The same sources indicate that the Japanese launch of the handheld will be accompanied by five to six software titles, with Nintendo aiming to have 11 titles on the market by the end of 2004.

Nintendo reportedly aims to sell three million units of the Nintendo DS worldwide by the end of fiscal 2005 next March - a period which should encompass both the Japanese and US launches before Christmas, and the European launch in early 2005.

While these figures certainly seem plausible, it should be noted that Nintendo has issued no official confirmation of the launch date, price or software support for the Nintendo DS as yet; in fact, we're still not even sure what the DS will be called at retail, since Nintendo DS is still officially a codename, not a final product name.

The retail prices suggested in this report would almost certainly make the NDS significantly cheaper than the PlayStation Portable, which is expected to cost well over 30,000 Yen (220 Euro) when it arrives in Japan later this year, ahead of a US and European launch in 2005.

Earlier this week, a Nintendo spokesperson criticised the PSP in an interview with Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun, arguing that the handheld could not be classified as a true video game system because of its integration of music and movie playback functions.

I have to say that five or six launch titles is weak, but hopefully those games will be killer apps like Animal Crossing DS and make up for it.

If that is the case........the picked a, well, normal time to do it......they have to compete against the regular end of year releases that always go on, so that may give them some troubles with sales, but with christmas and everything, they may be able to sell quite a few.  But........I believe they also may have rushed it a bit, just so they could release it before the PSP and at the end of the year....which would not be too great at all.......

Also, if that price is correct, it seems to be a very decent amount.....wasnt the GBA release price $200 or so?

Another thing.......the deal with the 6 launch titles........that would again be explained by rushing the release so they could get it out at the end of the year.

It's been too long since the GBA came out...I don't even remember how much it was at first. I don't think it was $200 though.

You know I didn't think about the date....duh! Only releasing 5-6 launch games may be a better idea, with all the other games coming out in November. I guess time will tell.

found an old article

REDMOND, Wash., January 28, 2002 - Nintendo today announced a global price drop for its best-selling, hand-held video game wonder Game Boy® Advance, effective February 1, 2002. In the U.S., the new suggested retail price is $79.95, representing a 20-percent decrease. This simultaneous global price drop is the result of production efficiencies and decreased component costs.

yeah, i did the math, that would mean you were right and i was wrong :lol

In that case.......they need to lower the price of the DS quite a bit, it will cost about as much as a console would, and i know the games are expensive.

I am betting no more than $40.... but where they say that $35 is too high priced and they couldn't market them that high....em.... what are they talking about?! ::D

†B†V† :hat

$35 isn't that bad. Heck, some GBA games are going for $35 right now. Most sites have DS games listed at $50, so $35 is an improvement. :D

I could live with $35 to $45 games for the DS, but $180 is a lot for a handheld system. I might hold off on it, unless I'm able to get a job a while before then. November is quickly coming though. I think the reason they have so few launch titles, aside from it being launched to beat the PSP, is because it's backwards compatible with the GBA. I bet they are going to look pretty good on the DS screens. Are GB and GBC games gonna work with it?
