DS surpasses the sales of the original GameBoy

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
The Nintendo DS has taken another milestone step, according to the latest financial figures from the company. Its 2009 fiscal report today announced that the DS has reached a life-to-date sales number of 128.89 million units. The number is significant because it marks the official passing of the Game Boy's lifetime sales, which previously held the record for the best-selling handheld system. This was no doubt bolstered by 12.29 million units sold in the Americas alone during the year, which broke Nintendo's own hardware sales records. Of course, Nintendo was helped along by releasing four different versions of the DS throughout its lifespan.

That's impressive. Especially when you consider the fact that it's library isn't nearly as great as the gameboy's, and the fact that they break so easily. >.>

Huh? DS has an amazing library and other than some hinge problems, I hardly ever hear about them breaking. What kind of issues have you encountered/heard of?

I know it has a good library, but the GameBoy's was superior to it.
And some issues I've had, a DS Lite a friend got brand new, the mic didn't work at all it it.
The hinge issue I've had on every DS I've owned (except my DS Lite) and most of the Ds' my friends own.
The L and R buttons on both my best friends DS Lite and DSi broke off.
Actually, the only one I've never had problems with is my DS Lite, but I haven't used it in months, and it only got about 6 months of use before I quit using it so it's probably only still in tact because I've been neglecting it.

How do your friends treat their stuff? Maybe you've just had some bad luck {or maybe we've had good luck!}, because neither myself or anybody I personally know has had any issues with their DS's, minus one person. She had hinge issues which were most likely due to the fact that would fling her DS open and slam it shut lol. But seriously, even my 8yo niece has a DS Lite and she is pretty rough on it, yet it's in flawless condition.

i got a DS phat that is still working like new and the poor thing has gone through a lot in the past 5 years or so.

In my humble opinion the DS has a better library of games than the GBA/GBC/GB.. why do i say this? well because what appeals to me are RPGs and although the older handhelds had PLENTY of amazing RPGs... i still can't quite catch up with the huge library of good rpgs the DS have (and the psp... but let's not get into that one xD)

not only that... the DS introduced me to a genre that the other consoles lacked or was not brought here to america for them (silent hill novel/ phoenix wright) which is the adventure/point and click genre, i absolutely love this genre and i know there's millions of them for the PC but the DS was the one that got me into them (probably due to the fact that many of them have a great anime style that attracts me)

Agreed 100%. I think the DS has one of the best libraries...dare I say it...of all time! It's almost intimidating because it has so many good games. I get kinda ocd because I want them all :D

They treat their stuff really well, I know because they borrow my stuff all the time, and I've never had an issue with it.
