Dungeons & Dragons

Does anyone here play the actual D&D tabletop rpg?

I do. :D My group plays every Sunday and there's about 8-10 of us that play every time.

My character is an epic catfolk ranger.

I might buy the tabletop RPG online soon. It seems like fun to play with a bunch of friends,in a "orc cave",sipping coke and laughing......good thoughts.:lol

@Ares, it really depends on who plays and how the DM (Dungeon Master) runs the game.

My group is pretty cool, though. We're all epic (level 20+) so we fight tough monsters pretty much every week.

D&D is a dice game of sorts, and a lot of it is up to your imagination. We have minis that represent our characters but we just play on this generic hexagon filled mat.

So basically, you choose what kind of action you want to take, and then do it. Like if you want to attack a monster, you have to move up to it and then attack it by rolling a D20 (twenty sided dice). You add a bunch of stats to that and then if that total exceeds the monster's armor class, you hit. Then you have to roll another die (in my case it's a D8) to see how much damage you do.

If you get unlucky and roll a 1, then you critically fumble, and sometimes you hit yourself instead of the enemy. :lol

It's kind of hard to describe, but it's really fun. :)

Sounds fun.I saw something like this on a 80s movie and it looked cool.:lol So I only know what it looks like from the 80s.:lol

Yeah, a little.

Honestly I thought it would be boring, but I sat in on a few sessions and everyone was having a good time, so I decided to try it out. I've actually gone through 3 characters (one was retired and one died) and it's always fun to see what you can do differently. There are so many different options.

2 questions

1.Where can you buy the full set?
2.do you have to play with a friend or can you play by yourself?

@Gaming Maiden: You really can't play by yourself, and have any fun with it.

I've never played it myself, but I've probably played like 10 games that are either based in the AD&D universe, or use AD&D combat system so does that count? :lol

doesnt Never Winter Nights use the same rules?
Yep. They actually have an online mode for that that's pretty similar to the tabletop game, except you aren't in direct contact with the people.

For some reason, NWN is the only Bioware game I never really got into...

Well, there's not really a set. You buy books, and all the rules and stuff are in the books. Player's Handbook 3.5 is the one to start with.

But you can't play by yourself. I think minimum for it to be enjoyable is at least four. One person has to be the DM so that would leave three people to play out the scenario.

@ Priince - If the topic bores you so much, don't read it.

@homi - Knights of the Old Republic used D&D rules so yeah, I would say that counts. :)

Yeah, I couldn't help but notice the constant references to saving throws and D20 (in the feat and skill descriptions).

Actually, for a while there, I was playing tons of games in the D&D universe. Planescape, Baldur's Gate (and the second one), Neverwinter Nights (never really got into that one), but I just could never do the tabletop game cause I hate math. I'll just let the computer do that for me on NWN. :lol

haha oooh it's not boring.

Yeah, the math is crazy. Most of us have small calculators handy when we play. One of my friends plays a Chaos Gnome, and one of his attacks requires him to roll like twenty D6s. :lol

@ Priince - Do you have something productive to add? :)

@homicidal cherry - I totally forgot about Baldurs Gate!!!

@ Mai - im not sure if its similar or not but it just reminds me of warhammer. watching people all gathered around with dice and calculators.. haha

I love Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. I have the first one on PS2 and the second one on Xbox. I liked how in the second one you could customize the weapons. My character dual-wields scimitars, and I have one that does poison damage and one that does frost damage. :D

A friend of mine always trys to get me to play. He runs an Ebberon campaign called Eyes of the Lich Queen. I finally decided to start playing just to try it and shut him up, soI made a half-orc character named Kraubgnolk. He smashes stuff and makes a tremendous amount or rape jokes. I like having a boisterous character since I usually fairly reserved.
