E3 2006 bans the Booth babes!

MegaDrive20XX

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
Yea, what's up with this? I skimmed over it. Can booth girls still be around, just not semi-clad...or what? I don't know, this is so stupid. These girls are used to sell cars and other products. Why not video games? >:(

well.. personally, I think it is nice that they did this..... sometimes things that weren't so bad get worse ... as they have in the last few years.

I could care less if they have attractive people modeling their products, but what was going on.... was pretty bad.. a lot of adult material, adult things that just don't need to be there.

I know... my opinion is the less popular, but i really think things went too far and hopefully this will clean it up.

Well, like someone in the article said...you can have virtual sex in games and many other vulgar things...but you can't have a lil eye-candy at a game event?

Well first of all dont blame Los Angeles for this. The ESA is the one who put all these rules. Second, the babes can still be around just not scantily-clad. I dont know about you guys but it's not a big deal to me. I can see scantily clad women whenever I want so if it's not at E3 then I wont really care.

Ahh, I thought they were whiping out the girls in general.

and third I took your pizza when you weren't looking and fourth, this doesn't matter actually, I just wanna see the video clips and big surprises of E3. Not my fault ESA likes men instead of women and they live in San Fran!

If E3 was open to the public I'd whole heartedly support it. But as it is, scantily clad booth babes were part of the experience for many people that went to, and watched clips from, E3. People downloading clips from E3 could still vew all the videogame-goodness and not see a single booth babe if for some reason it offended them. But now anyone that enjoyed the booth babe segments is outta luck.

I dunno, to me it just seems way too politically correct. The whole idea was just supposed to be fun, to get attention, and maybe indulge a geeky gamer or two. In all honesty, I think its a good thing that male gamers drooled over real women once in awhile...

Beautiful girls in exotic clothing, what's not to like?

They do drool over women all the time...

I am personally glad they finally stopped some of this.... I mean, some of the acts and stuff were just tasteless.

Besides... people should be able to enjoy women fully clothed as well.

Perhaps I was missing some of the "raw" booth babe footage or something, but I honestly thought they were pretty wholesome, especially considering what's aired on daytime TV. Seriously, have you ever watched a Britney Spears/Christina Aguilera/Jennifer Simpson music video? Hell, any female that wants to get their song played on TV pretty much has to be a professional stripper nowadays. I won't even mention about what is readily available on the internet if one is so inclined to search it.

Really, in the big scheme of things, I think the only people that will actually care about this decision will be the ones that are dissapointed by it. And as for enjoying women fully clothed, I do, on a daily basis. What I don't get to enjoy on a daily basis is beautiful women in exotic clothing. It's not like they were forcing these girls to do things they didn't want to, and I'd be willing to bet they get paid a fair wage for it too.

Like I said, perhaps I'm missing something, but booth babes just seemed like harmless fun to me. No one's forcing anyone to watch footage of booth babes, so if you dissaprove of it, then don't watch it. Simple as that.

As someone who's actually been to E3, I have to say that I think it's about time they enforced this. Booth babes aren't that bad but IMO the strength of the games should be the appeal at any company's booth, not whether or not so-and-so's booth has hot chicks.

Well what about games like Tomb Raider, DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball, Rumble Roses, etc., if the booth is supposed to appeal to people because of it's games, and the appeal of the games are beautiful women (figuratively speaking of course), does it not stand to reason that developers could (and do) use sex appeal to entice people to go to their booths? Someone already mentioned above that car shows usually sport gorgeous women to flaunt their products, can that not extend to an industry that is all about entertainment? Once again, we're not talking nude models, or anything even softcore (well, maybe some things may be considered borderline, but you know what I mean) so I would still call it "tasteful" by today's standards.

In fact if I'm not mistaken it was a real life Lara Croft that started the whole booth babe idea at E3. And as I said before, it's nice to know gamers actuallu look at non-computer generated women at least a couple days out of the year. :D

beautiful is one thing.... but they have been getting pretty bad since 2000... each year was getting worse and worse.
I think they took the sex appeal too far.

but things sell in other ways as well...

And a lot of times, they can sell more in other ways.... especially to those who are "offended... or don't care for" the trashier side of things.

good point but you got to think about the majority of people in this particular situation.

which is probably more on the sex sells side

Sex definitly sells, and that's fine by me, but I feel it just hides mediocre games and whatnot. There are great games that have sex appeal but what makes it good is the gameplay itself. The sex is just icing on the cake. And I think this keeps developers from hiding their mediocre games behind sex appeal. Now they are forced to actually show you what makes the game good rather than having to rely on women to sell it for them. That's my take on this whole situation.
