Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers for Wii

Great, it looks more like Final Fantasy X than it would Crystal Chronicles GCN...which was dead average, single player wasn't much fun. Hope the exotic emulated FFX experience won't give it a low score...considering how old FFX is.

it still does not look anything like FFX......

and too bad for you i guess... i had 3 friends with GBAs to play with so i did not play single player much. (only once and it was indeed just average)

Whew...well, I scrolled through the threads and didn't see any new ones about this game. I guess no one bought it when it came out?

My mini-review:

I beat it in 9 hours and 36 minutes. The voice acting is atrocious, most notably by the main character. Excited, scared, angry, they're all the same. The graphics are really good for a wii game and the storyline is pretty wonderful, thankfully - which somewhat makes up for it. I found the game worth playing simply for that. The soundtrack is wonderful as well, as usual with FF games.

Gameplay wise - it's fun and novel for about the first hour and a half while you fling enemies around with your wiimote. Around that point it gets really old, as it doesn't really change throughout the game. You also realize around this point that it's just easier to skip most the enemies, which is very doable. The only thing killing loads of the non-boss enemies does is up your health meter a little bit, which is unnecessary. There's really only about 4 or 5 required battles the whole game.

The running to cutscenes and optional battles is broken up by a buncha different mini-games. Some are fun, some are frustrating, that's how mini-games go. And by running, I do mean a LOT of running. It occupied most of my time in this game. Lot of the time it felt like watching a movie where I had to shake my controller from time to time.

You collect gil and items to make a couple accessories that help you out, but that's kinda unnecessary too. I didn't notice a difference between my middle of the road upgrades and my original. I didn't bother to collect the items to get the high end ones and beat the game fine.

The boss fights are cool and offer different tricks of how you have to beat them, which can be frustrating and challenging. There's a retry button on those so if you fail the first time before figuring out how to do it, it's no biggie. That was probably the most fun I had in terms of the gameplay itself.

After you beat the game, it allows you to save. You get to keep all the items you had the first go around for the second, making it easier to get achievements, collect the top tier items and get your 100% complete if that's your thing. I am not interested enough to do it.

So it's fun for a little bit, it's easy...it's stupid, it's frustrating, and it's got a good storyline. I'm on the fence about it. Kinda 7/10 all things considered.

Hmmm i was actually interested in this game... do you think it is still worth my money XD? after reading your review i sort of am on the fence

Gosh I can't really say whether I recommend it or not. It really is a looooot of running around and not much action. If you're the type that really likes to collect achievements for the sake of achievements, this game has a lot to offer. At first, you'll feel like it's no problem to do the non-boss enemy fights and that you'll go through the game that way to do it "right", but it really becomes tedious - not from difficulty or risk of dying, but because it's really a pain to stop and kill a bunch of enemies. It's also timed, so if you don't do it fast enough, it resets.

That's the absolute negative. Like I said, the boss battles were pretty fun and the storyline was cool though. So it evens out. It's not a great game by any means, but it wasn't so annoying that I just stopped before beating it either. It's kinda a 'pick it up if you find it cheap used' for a normal person. If you really love final fantasy stuff and have to get the story, then you'll be more into it obviously.

I'm personally going through every final fantasy game I can right now, in a desire to beat all of them (I don't know why). This was a nice break from RPGing because it's more of a tomb raider style action adventure game in that regard. But if you're not a final fantasy dork I'd probably skip it. There's better games.

Well I am a Final Fantasy Dork to an extent so i guess i'll probably pick it up... I am also sort of into certain achievements... depends on the reward really.

Well, unfortunately the achievements don't really give you anything except for a shiny trophy in this game saying "yay, I did this."
