Sega will be releasing a follow-up to Sonic Mega Collection exclusively on Gamecube, featuring Sonic CD, Sonic the Fighters, and more.

Sonic the fighters? I've never heard of this. How is it?

Okay, have you ever played "Fighter's Mega Mix" on Sega Saturn?

Okay two characters "Bean and Bark" were on it. Those two were from Sonic the Fighters

It's pretty much like Virtua Fighter Kids except with Sonic like characters

WHAT?! Show me your source! I gotta see this!

Yeah... where did you hear about this?

And what kind-of follow up is it? what is it called?

MD20.. I take it your excited about that? :)

BV :hat

It's a little blurb in the May issue of Play magazine (it has Death Jr. on the cover and should already be available any place where they have a good selection of gaming magazines). There's no pictures or anything. But Play magazine is a very reliable source.

Ah ok thanks.

I actually have a 45 minute video distributed by Sega, AM2 and Sonic Team that's a complete walk-through of Sonic The Fighters. It includes everything from basic techniques to full move/combo listings for each character to a complete play-through with Sonic.

I've been meaning to capture it for some time.. seeing as how old the tape is and the likelihood of the video eventually going bad.

Okay it's offical

Earlier today SEGA’s Japanese page for the upcoming Sonic Gems Collection was launched providing a host of new information about the game, all of which can finally be set in concrete thanks to it coming directly from an official source.

The site, which is laced with some beautiful new-classic styled artwork provides us with the following. The game will be released in August this year on Playstation 2 and GameCube. Finally, what everyone has been waiting for, the list of games to be included in this compilation.

Sonic the Fighters (Arcade)
Sonic CD (Sega CD)
Sonic R (Sega Saturn)
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Game Gear)
Sonic Spinball (Game Gear)
Sonic and Tails 2 (Game Gear) (aka Sonic Chaos)
Sonic Drift 2 (Game Gear)
Tails Sky Patrol (Game Gear)
Tails Adventure (Game Gear)

The game will also include a gallery of high quality official artwork and some movies, however, which movies in particular is yet to be disclosed.

and most importantly....the offical Japanese title screen...

I took a picture of someone playing Sonic Fighters while I was waiting in line to play Zelda. The person who was playing was using Tails and he was kicking butt. When I get my E3 pics scanned I'll have someone host them and then post them here.

Sonic the Fighters was pretty good, the only AM2 fighter that was canned as one of the final Saturn ports...It has a pretty nice character selection as well

I missed that. When did they decide to put it on PS2? It was going to be only on GC according to first reports. Oh well. No biggie. :)

Actually that is old news, but here's what's gonna happen

Europe gets the PS2 version
USA gets the GameCube Version

My question..."Why Sega?"

Japan gets both. Although, the GC rev is being released first.
