Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
Diablo designer in charge of Marvel MMO
Previous attempts at adapting the Mavel Comics license into an MMORPG have been less than successful, but Gazillion Entertainment's Marvel Universe MMO looks to be picking up steam. Gazillion just announced that they've appointed Flagship veteran and former Blizzard North president David Brevik as the new studio director of Gargantuan -- the team currently working on Marvel Universe.
Brevik, who lead the development of both the first two Diablo games and Blizzard's Battle.net service, seems pretty pleased with the situation. "I'm a huge fan of comic books, superheroes, and MMORPGs, so the chance to lead the creative efforts for the Marvel Universe MMO is an amazing opportunity," he gushed, adding,"Gazillion's mission to bring MMOs to the mainstream while maintaining the depth in gameplay that enthusiast gamers demand is something that deeply resonates with me. Marvel is a perfect fit for this mission, and I couldn't imagine a better venue to announce our efforts than Comic-Con."
Marvel Universe will be up against some stiff competition, however. By the time it comes out, both DC Universe Online and Cryptic's Champions Online -- lead by fellow Flagship/Blizzard alumnus Bill Roper -- will have most likely established themselves in the already-crowded MMO market.
