Full Windows restore help

I was wondering if there was a way to completely remove everything from Windows XP? Like set it back to how it came out of the factory. My PC has so many viruses and spyware, and none of the removal products I've tried have worked. I've tried System Restore and it doesn't fix anything. Anyone know about how to do a full restore?

You could always reinstall Windows.

Depending on the manufacturer of the computer, they include recovery discs or a separate partition that boots up to allow the reinstallation of Windows. You may have to burn the discs yourself.

WARNING: This method will remove EVERYTHING on your computer, including documents, programs, drivers, etc. so make sure to keep a backup of any file you would ever want to keep (documents, emails, favorite places, music, pictures, etc.)

Yeah...ive never done it with XP.....i googled some sites for you, you can see if this helps....

make sure you have all the cds and drivers and everything before you do it, though

To reformat a hard drive with Windows XP, insert Windows CD and restart your computer.

Your computer should automatically boot from the CD to the Windows Setup Main Menu.

At the Welcome to Setup page, press ENTER.

Press F8 to accept the Windows XP Licensing Agreement.

If an existing Windows XP installation is detected, you are prompted to repair it. To bypass the repair, press ESC.

Use the ARROW keys to select the partition or the unpartitioned space where you want to create a new partition. Press D to delete an existing partition, or press C to create a new partition.

Type the size in megabytes (MB) that you want to use for the new partition, and then press ENTER, or just press ENTER to create the partition with the maximum size.

Select the format option that you want to use for the partition (Recommended: NTFS), and then press ENTER.

You have now sucessfully reformatted the hard drive with Windows XP.

if you need more help, just try googling "reformatting windows xp" or something to that effect

It helps if you have another computer with a removable hard drive, from my own experiences. My brother has done this with my other computer. He took my old HD, put it in his computer and ran some software on it to wipe it clean. I could have then just plugged it back into my old computer and reinstalled the OS.

I re-installed XP on my comp not long ago, i didn't think to save all my music to harddrive so lost just over 3000 songs! I also had to install my graphics card and motherboard drivers again but not sure if you have to with every computer. I would just get a usb harddrive first and put the stuff u want to keep on there. It took me so long to put all my cd's on here, I'm still gutted to this day. Anyway good luck! :)

hm... try this... try reinstalling Windows over what you have now.

It's not the BEST way to do things... but it will replace all the corrupt files. Problem is that it won't get rid of other files..etc.

BUt.. you could give that a try... if not... just reformat.

Nah I'm just gonna delete everything.

*edit* learned that unprotected Windows computers will be infected by viruses/spyware within 15-20 minutes of being online >:(

Lol. This post is actually kind of funny. First off, any type of final can be removed from your PC, it's just if you know how to do it, or if the program has the ability to do so. One of the most common things that people are percieved by is that most virus detection programs classify spyware and adware as viruses. There isn't really arn't too many malicious files that are out wreaking havoc on the public. Henceforth, here are the top programs that I use to detect spyware and adware. The reason that most spyware's can't be removed by the program that you're using is because it starts on startup. With the programs that I use, if the spyware/adware runs on startup, you reboot and it catches it before the spyware has time to run. The programs that I use are:

Spybot - Search & Destroy

&

Ad-Aware SE Personal

You can probably just find them on the net somewhere for free. I torrented them. Hope you learned something and that your PC gets "well".

PM me for more info.

I use ad-aware and spybot too. I also use this little program called "Abexo free registry cleaner", it works wonders I tell ya'. For virus protection I use "AVG Anti-Virus", it's much better than Norton/McAfee IMO. Using those 4 programs and frequently defragmenting my drives keeps my pc/s running smooth and clean :) Oh, and I use Firefox as my browser, I love it.
