Few, if any, negative comments were ever, or will ever be, made about this game. From the moment you started playing, to the last moment you spend playing it (your own death), this game delivered on all of its lofty promises, and then some. The winner of this award will undeniably be a work of art, a must-have experience, a testament to the potential of the medium, and like a fine wine will only become more flavorful as it ages.

You may change your vote after you have voted, so be persuasive and let everyone know why you voted for the game you did, and why they should too!

Wait, is this just for 360 game of the year or overall?

Wait nvm, just found out for myself.

i thought the same thing myself :lol

Fable 2 provides the most innovative and explorative gameplay. Although one could rush through it, the sheer detail the developers made to the game make it more of an interesting step up above the same mechanics that Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing attempt to explore in making a game in which one comes back to it for more.

What I am saying is that the game provides much in the way of replayability and allowing everyone to perhaps experience their own life of the character in their own manner. It makes it a very personalized experience with mechanics that never grow old. It is definitely the defining Xbox 360 game for this year.

Gears 2

You can't die in Fable 2...all you get is a scar...so you could basically, during a boss fight...go to the bathroom, make a sandwich, and drive to the store and back, and only be scarred up when you come back..it's a joke.

Yeah, I don't quite understand that part... But if I did actually die, I would never get past the middle part of the game, cause that's when I started dying 3-4 times in a group of mobs.

Yeah, I haven't played it for that long...thinking about picking it up at Best Buy (on sale for $45), but the no dying thing really turns me off. :-\

Just do what I did with BioShock; impose a penalty for death upon yourself. Reload from the last save every time you die, instead of just taking the scar.

I have so many potions and such that "dieing" never really was an option anyway. As well, any potential experience that you accrued during the battle is lost, so you are losing something, you're just not forced to do everything over again.

Additionally, the crux of Fable 2 really is centered around how you interact with the NPC's. Everything you do in the game (complete quests, do jobs, buy/sell/rent property, change attire) is done so in order to either get everyone to fear you or love you. If you're trying to get people to love you then getting too many scars will make that much more difficult. And if you're trying to get people to fear you by playing an "evil" character in the game you're basically just trying to "break" the game anyway by messing around with the NPC's and killing them indiscriminately, so you're probably not too worried about how good you do in battle.

Its not a perfect system by any means, but there are motivations to not be "killed," and if you weren't a fan of Denis Dyack's mandatory 30 second cutscene for dieing in Too Human, you'll probably appreciate Molyneaux's approach.

Fable 2 is easily one of my favorite and most played games of 2008 (GTA IV, CiV Rev, and NHL 09 notwithstanding) so I highly recommend you pick it up if its on the cheap.

Gears of War 2. No other game had made me feel so saddened by such a character and his trials this year. The likeable characters (COLE TRAIN!!) give the dialouge a bit of humor. The ending pleased me until after the credits when you realized what the 3rd game is going to be all about. Gotta give it all to Ben Carmine though. He was the best game character for me this year. No one was as likeable for me than Carmine. As fun as the first game, I really loved this. I can't see a reason why this wouldn't be my favorite game of the year.
