GameStop...a necessary evil?

I really hate to have to shop there, but sometimes it's just necessary for one reason or another, especially when I'm looking for old games that no one else carries anymore.

Does anyone else feel this way when you shop at GameStop?

For my local Gamestop, yes. For some reason they seem to always have some rare hard to find game that's not even listed on the site.

I hardly find old games there. I go elsewhere since I still buy games for even older consoles. The last place I go to get a game and is in no way a necessary evil. As long as you don't go for the limited edition games you can find big releases anywhere else. I really wish they would go away.

Oh, well I don't mean old games in that sense. They don't carry anything from before the GC/PS2/Xbox gen as it is. But for example, when my friends and I wanted to pick up some copies of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (for the GBA), no one sells it new anymore, so we had to get used copies from GameStop.

I buy as much of my games from Wal-Mart as possible since I have a discount there. But there's some things that Wal-Mart doesn't have, which is why I sometimes have to go to GameStop.

I like Gamestop. Well, I guess I like pretty much ALL game stores, so I guess I am not the right person to ask. lol

Not necessary at all. I haven't shopped there in quite a while (because I hate them), and if I want a hard to find game, I head to Amazon. They have a far larger selection anyways.

Amazon is great if you only want like 1 or 2 games, but the problem I have is that so many games are sold by separate vendors and you get hit with individual shipping charges for each vendor. So, for just 3 games you could be looking at like $15 just for shipping. Other than that though, Amazon is the way to go for super rare stuff. As for the Gamestop hating, I don't really have any. I mean, there wasn't some super cool Mom n Pop shop that got drove out of business by them here locally. However, if that was the case, I'd be pissed and would never shop there.

There is a really cool game store that I think is going to get driven out of business, in the town where I shop for games at. It isn't really a "mom and pop" store though. It is more like a "very very heavy dude and very very skinny dude" store. :D The people that work there are really nice and the store has an awesome feel to it, and is one of the first game stores I had ever been in, but hardly anybody goes there now. :/

I do have a little hate for Gamestop/EB Games now. They ran out the best game store I had ever been to. G3 was an amazing store. I mean come on a game store with it's own arcade is pretty pimp.

i'm new in this country and let me tell you that gamestop is like a heaven for me XD

I buy everything from Gamestop here. The people at mine are really cool. I even hungout with one at a bar.

Same, except the bar part. This kid that works at the one here is really cool and he always talks to me just like a friend would.

I hate'em. They overcharge you, used games steal profit from the actual game-makers, they're unnecessary middle-men that hold more power in the videogame industry than they should. We have the technology in place right now to avoid them entirely (digital distribution) and ensure that the money you spend on an Infinity Ward game (for example) actually goes to Infinity Ward. Gamestop, EBgames, HMV... screw'em all.

Not a fan of cheap games? I can understand if you're talking about new games that you can still find new at your local Walmart, but older games that you'll no longer find at your local stores, I have no problem purchasing. Plus, it hasn't hurt the game industry really at all. I haven't read of a complaint from a publisher or game-maker about it, especially since they have billion dollar building's they're using to make these games in. That's just what I think though. My whole $12 spent on a used game isn't going to hurt the game-makers.

sines i live in a big city there is a lot of gamestop near me some are good some of them suck the only time i will go in to one is if i want a game the that is released by a small independent video game company (sines place like best buy and wal-mart dont get these games) or i went a game that just came out but i dont want to pay $50-$60 so i will get it at gamestop used or i want a game that is old that you cant find new anymore so i have to get it at gamestop used

the 2 things i dont like about gamestop if you buy a game for a system and a new game is coming they will Harass you to no end about reserveing your copy the 2nd thing i dont like about gamestop if you buy a game new and its the last copy they end up giveing you an open copy of the game its new no one has played it we swear yet it has scraches and fingerprints all over the disc :lol
