SEGA announced today that Gearbox Software will develop the first-person shooter title based on the Alien film franchise for the next-generation systems. A press release from SEGA says that "Gearbox Software’s FPS Alien title will retain the atmospheric look and feel of the original films while leveraging next-generation technology to create an entirely new interactive Alien experience."

Gearbox Software is the creator of Brothers in Arms and they have also ported Halo to Windows and Half-Life 2 to Xbox.

“Gearbox Software has a storied history of bringing innovative and compelling design to the FPS category,” said Simon Jeffery, President and COO, SEGA of America, Inc. “Combining their design talents with the intense action of the Alien franchise ensures that gamers will have an immersive and action-packed experience.”

“The Alien series has been a tremendous influence for myself, the people at Gearbox Software and the video games industry in general,” said Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software. “The opportunity to work with the amazing people at SEGA and Fox to build a next generation video game in the Alien universe is one of those dream projects that is a perfect fit for our capability and our passion.”

Could be good, could be bad. Lets hope it is good ;D

DEAR LORD! I cannpt wait!

All they need to do is take the stuff from Aliens (the best of the 5) and make a good game. I was waiting for Colonial Marines, but it fell through.

Gearbox has a good track record, and Aliens has a lot of material to draw from. Sounds like a potential winner.

True, but hope is all we got these days ;)

But, the Predator games weren't done by Gearbox (I don't think anyways). Gearbox has Opposing Force, Halo PC, Blue Shift, and the Brothers in Arms games under their belt. Not to mention helped on the retail Counterstrike (one of the best games ever).

Now I do admit, Brothers in Arms is a solid series and if they can pull off a true FPS with ALIENS...then I'm sold :)

I couldn't believe they dumped Colonial Marines (which looked sweet) for the the shambles that was Extinction. If all they did was just update the old Alien Trilogy for PS1 I would be happy. Also, I hope it's as atmospheric as AVP for PC, which rules. I can't wait to get my hands on the pulse rifle; best gun noise ever!
