Ghostbusters, Brutal Legend, and More in Limbo

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6195113.html

Earlier today, Activision Publishing announced a streamlining of its Vivendi Games operations, saying it would be bringing into the fold five of that company's franchises: Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Ice Age, Prototype, and one unannounced game.

An Activision representative later confirmed for GameSpot that those would be the only Vivendi Games franchises coming out of the publisher. That leaves a number of high-profile projects in limbo, including Double Fine Productions' Brutal Legend, as well as Wet, Ghostbusters, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, World at Conflict: Soviet Assault, 50 Cent Blood on the Sand, Zombie Wranglers, Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust, plus several Xbox Live Arcade titles.

There are several good games on that list, and it's such a shame that only one of them is gonna survive the merger. I guess we're finally seeing the downside to Activision and Vivendi merging.

Well I believe there was a future interview done and they said that Ghostbusters was not in any threat of being cancelled. I think that 2 more of those will still come out (World at Conflict probably)

If Ghost Buster's isn't canceled, then it's likely that the rest are (if Activision-Blizzard's statement is to be believed). Too bad too because World in Conflict was hailed as a great RTS, and a new Chronicles of Riddick game would be epic (even if it is a remake).

Rumors are spreading that GameStop is pulling all the pre-orders on Ghostbusters and taking away the pre-order boxes :(

Okay ATARI has picked up the rights to publish the game, it won't be ready until 2009 however :(

Wow, this is actually incredible news. The game is practically already made, so there's going to be little to no overhead cost for Atari in terms of funding development (which is good, because Atari doesn't have the money to fund development). I'm surprised it took this long for someone to snag it up, but I think Atari is making a very smart move here, picking up a game that just needs distribution and is guaranteed to sell moderately well if not above average.

Actually, there is some cost and that is with the Ghostbuster licensing. Which is the reason why it was in limbo for so long. Publishers didn't want to pay those royalties. It could actually hurt Atari if this game bombs. Quite a risk in my opinion. Heck, even if it sells moderately well, there is still a chance Atari could lose money.

Ghostbusters will be released summer of 09' to fit the 25th Anniversary of the first film.

June 09' is when the game shall be released! Hopefully...

MAN they better realse ghostbusters. That game looks too frickin cool.

I can't wait.

and looking at the characters in the video game... the sounds...etc... this has to be in the top 2 to 3 games that mimick movies.

The Battle for Middle Earth had near perfect sounds and voices... but honestly, Ghostbusters really captures the cast from the original movie well... probably the best I have ever seen. Not sure if everyone will agree... but I am impressed.
