Has anyone played this yet? My roomate picked it up yesterday, and I haven't had the chance to play it myself, but I watched him play it for a bit. From what I saw the game was fantastic, that is, fantastic if you grew up with games like Final Fight, Double Dragon, and River City Ransom. God Hand is essentially a throwback to all those 2d brawler games, with the graphics updated (marginally). There is virtually no polish on this game, all of the wall textures, room layouts, and animations are fairly simplistic, but older gamers should be used to that sort of thing. The enemies also just kind of "hang out" like they did in the old games until you walk up to them, at which point they want to kill you, for no apparent reason.
I actually really like this game because it doesn't take itself seriously, at all (the first level revolves around the main character being thirsty and wanting a drink of water, so he has to beat up like 3 dozen guys. Does it make sense? Not at all, but then again, neither did the plots to all the old beat-em-up games, and at least this plotline is intentionally funny). It's also really cool how you actually get to "make" your combos. There's no set "hit square twice and X once" combo, because you get to assign moves to each button press, so in essence you make your own fighting style and combos, and there are plenty of possibilities. There's also a lot of randomness to the game in terms of items and powerups and whatnot. All in all, I wish more games were like God Hand, taking what made old classic games great and just realizing them on a new console.
