Personally, I think Gradius III is the best shooter of all time. It is just flawless. It has dimensions because you can gain powerups, a reasonable yet challenging difficulty level, various options to choose from, incredible characters, great bosses, excellent replay value, two player co-op, what could be better?

To answer that question... UN Squadron :lol

I have a gradius 3 in at this time.... and I am going to be dropping some time into it.

Honestly, I am really looking forward to playing it and when I do, I can drop a better opinion here :)

I liked Gradius 3 a lot, and Super R-type nearly as much, but I think UN Squadren edges them both out. All are really great games though.

I havn't played Gradius III yet due to not being able to get hold of it, but what I have been enjoying recently is Gokujyou Parodius. For those who don't know it's basically a cutesy Gradius game but with characters replacing ship types.

I'd recommend it to anyone that's into shmups.

I'm not a big fan of shooters but rtype and gradius III are probably my favorites, or maybe just the only ones i have played
OOo.. I love shooters :)

Gradius 3 is a hard game... Rtype is pretty hard. I had a hard time with Raiden.
Gradius Galaxies on the GBA is a very cool game as well!

Bv :hat

I hear you! I bought the gradius collection on the PSP. Gradius Galaxies on the GBA was very cool as well. Although that game didn't translate well to the GBA Player for the Gamecube!

I was talkiing about Gradius III and IV with Bluevoodu just the other day.

I actually have Gradius III on SNES AND Gradius III & IV on the PS2.

Gradius III on the PS2 is actually the Japanese arcade version. It has some different graphics and (I think) slightly higher difficulty than the US SNES release of Gradius III.

Gradius IV is just PHENOMINAL. I think that it has become my favorite side scrolling shooter (topping even Darius Twin).

I was playing this game on my SNES just this past weekend. It is still great to pull out even after all these years. :)

And ironically we were talking about this game last night during L4D :lol Especially Darius Twin

The PSP Collection rocks! It broke my heart when I heard the Japanese received the PARODIUS Collection as well!

Parodius actually looks very cool...

Ya know, granted, I am huge on Konami games in general, Castlevania, Silent Hill, Gradius, etc... I still love how many easter eggs the company includes in games.

Symphony of the Night has a shield rod that can shoot a small Gradius style star shaped shield in front of Alucard. One of the final spells Charlotte learns in Portrait of Ruin is Salimander, like the namesake of the Japanese Gradius games. The spell summons a fire dragon much like the boss from Gradius III.

Don't also forget, in Animaniacs on Genesis and SNES, on the Sci-Fi studios level there's a space ship that's Vic Viper from Gradius :lol

Parodius has to be one of my favorite shoot'em ups. I've played the PC Engine, MSX Computer, and Super Famicom editions. Yet the one I loved the most was Gokujo Parodius on SFC/SNES, since it had cameos from Konami characters like Goemon from Mystical Ninja and KID DRACULA with his own CastleVania BGM! :D

The Sega Saturn/PS1 import "Sexy Parodius" is pretty well known, but I never got a chance to see it.
