"Grand Theft Auto 3"--"Grand Theft Auto:San Andreas"

Hi Everyone,

I would've posted this in the correct catergory, but I think these titles are on the 360 as well,so instead of wasting space,I figured this was the best choice.
I have a chance to buy "GTA III" at a local shop, but after playing "GTA:San Andreas" I feel that "GTA III" might not come even close to measuring up to "GTA:San Andreas".

I think San Andreas may have spoiled me and I'm worried that all I'll be doing constantly comparing the two, thus making "GTA II" no good at all.I was wondering if anyone who has played both could perhaps tell in your opinion what the good points and the bad points of each.I guess what I mean is,is "GTA III" still a fun game after playing "GTA:San Andreas" which was a blockbuster award winning title first.

In closing just because "GTA III" never became a "Greatest Hits" title for the PS2 that doesn't mean it's not a good game right?

Sincerely,
MR.KAZ 1:8

I'm pretty sure GTA III did become a greatest hits title on the PS2, and yes it is a great game. It's more of an arcade-y experience. The vehicles handle much less realistically, and the city you're in is smaller, but I personally enjoyed GTA III more than San Andreas. I wasn't a big fan of the character customization options in San Andreas, and did not like how the vehicles handled in that game. I also didn't like the attempt to imitate Los Angeles, so I enjoyed the atmosphere of GTA III a lot more. There is less to do and less to see in GTA III, but it's still a very fun game that I would recommend checking out. If you can get GTA III: Liberty City stories you should pick up that version of the game. The graphics on it are more detailed and I believe they added some missions to it as well.

If you've played GTA IV however, it may be impossible to go back to... :lol

Really I only liked the first 2 GTAs, I function much better in a 2-d environment.... :-[

GTA 2 is awesome. I never really got over how they changed that formula of the rock-paper-scissors gangs, where if you started killing one group of gang members, another group would like you more, and the third wouldn't care. I miss the Zaibatsu :lol

Vice City is still my favorite.

You must play GTA3! Sure San Andreas has way more to do, but IMO GTA3 just has a better "feel" to it. I don't know if it's the environment the game's set in, the characters, the missions, or just the overall gameplay, but it does feel better to me than SA. SA was fun the first time I played it, but now it's just annoying and ugly and I can't play it for more then 10 minutes. Your main dude in GTA3 is silent, too, which is kinda nice after playing CJ for so long. I would tie GTA 3 and Vice City as my favorite's {have not played 4 yet}.

Oh, believe me, it can be done >_>

It's awesome to see all the VC love! :lol

Vice City was my favorite of the GTA's on last gen consoles, I didn't know so many other people thought so as well.

I totally agree. VC was my favorite to this date. I don't know how GTA4 is gunna fare since I haven't gotten it yet but we shall see. VC will probably be my favorite anyway.

Yeah, VC is pretty much perfect. The soundtrack is one of the best ever {oh how they butchered the soundtrack in SA >:(}, Tommy V is the frikkin man, and that whole 80's vibe is just awesome. I'd say VC was a perfect mix of quantity and quality.
