Graphics Card

I have long wanted to upgrade, and with my first steady job (I'm 15, before you ask), I think I can buy one. My PC is good with the exception of my display adapter. On www.srtest.com I pass with flying colors everywhere EXCEPT my graphics card (We'll never buy a stock PC again...custom built from here on out).

So...

I don't want to plop down $600 for an 8800...but I want to be able to play the newest games as of NOW (F.E.A.R., Oblivion, GRAW, Half-Life 2, etc.). I don't care about future releases, I'll cross that when I come to it.

Problem is, I don't want to exceed $200, and I would REALLY prefer to stay under $100.

Any hope????

I researched on CNET...but they don't review half of the stuff on the site, so I'm out of luck there. Any personal testimonies? Good buys?

Please help. :-\

I got an ati x1600 on ebay for about £110 (i think is about just above $210, and that was sometime last year about 12 months ago)
which is good at playing current games and should be for future ones too

Yea, not too much under $100, but for like $120 you can get a Radeon x1650 xt, or Nvidia 7600 gt, which are both pretty damn good cards for that price.

Well, newegg is the best site, as was said earlier. Be sure to make sure your computer is compatible with the card you are buying before you spend your money though.

powerleap.com has a program that can help you find compatible upgrades for your pc.

dx9 go with the 7series for sure if you can. like the 7600gt or the 7950 i hear the x1950 by ati is a good choice but those are also 250 dollars

dx10 go with an 8600gt or gts. the gt is really crap. the 8500 is crap all around

and the 8600gts is the best it comes next to the 8800gts which is 300 dollars or so

and you can get a 8600gts on td for 160.

I'm a nvidia fan myself. Ati has some better benchmarks but all their cards are power hungry monsters.

there is something like an 80 watt difference in psu requirement between a 2900 + 8800
