i'm about to buy an HDTV

it has an HDMI port

my question is, what kind of connections will i need to optimize the picture when i get a PS3?

would you plug the PS3 up to the TV with an HDMI cord or something different? if so, is the PS3 expected to come with one as one of its base connections

To put it simply....yes.

The HDMI does it all. Both sound and video. You're all set, especially if your HDTV can display 1080p. Although games will mostly only support upwards of 720p. To be honest though, if I were you, I would wait a little longer for an HDTV especially if you're going to get a PS3. Unless you've found an incredible deal.

i was planning on waiting until next spring to get an HDTV, but i found what i think is a really good deal,

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...4332-7220624?_encoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=172282

that TV has pretty much everything i want considering my budget is about $600 or less

do you know if the PS3 is gonna come with an HDMI cable or is that another 60 bucks i must shell out?

Well by wait I meant a couple of more months, but that deal looks good. Actually it seems a little too good to be true. Try finding more about that TV. As for the cable, I would figure it would come with it but don't be surprised if it doesn't. Im not sure if it does.

the reviews on it seem pretty good for the most part

samsung is a quality brand, and the picture has good quality

it does make me wonder why wal-mart, circuitcity, and best buy dont have it, but office depot is a known place

its isnt like i'm ordering it from shady grady's TV shop

It's not the place, it's the TV itself. I wouldn't go by two reviews, at least that's how many I saw. Im just wondering about the features and the overall picture quality. Usually when you pay more you actually get better quality. Im not saying it's a bad TV, but when it comes to HDTV's it's best to research as much as possible.

i have read about 5 reviews on it

i definitely need to read more, but if the picture quality is good i will probably buy it

also, i have seen this TV retailed for $600-650, so that could either mean it is a really good TV, or it has a major flaw somewhere in it

cnet.com had a detailed overview of the features and it had everything you could really expect for a TV in that price range

yeah i was looking at prices on circuit city and best buy for 60-200 bucks

then i googled it and found them for 15 bucks

is the quality about the same for these cheap cables?

They're not Monster Cables, but I would assume they'd suffice. Especially if you're going such short distances as 3 feet or so.

When it comes to digital cables, the brand barely matters. It will suffice you but Im not sure how long they last. Eventually you'll want to upgrade to a $60 cable. For $200 that cable better last a lifetime.

The quality difference between different brands of cable is hardly noticable unless you're a hardcore video/audiophile. And even then the difference is negligible.

The cables should last much longer than the console's lifespan, that's for sure.

that is good to know

i'm not really a video game junkie, i just want to get the best picture possible for the least amount of extra money since i am spending 420 bucks on a TV
