i really want xbox live and in my house we have cable from charter, and i was wondering if i plug a cable modem into any cable cord in my house and then the ethernet cord in the 360 if that will get me an internet connection.

I'm not sure about that. I have dsl and a wireless router to run live. I've never had cable before. I know that you have to be signed on with dsl through the router for it to work. You can't just run an ethernet cable into the xbox and it magically work. You could try worse case is that it doesnt work.

YES. Usually you will have to unplug the modem from power for 10 secconds and then plug it back in to reset the modem before connecting it to your 360. I have charter and this has worked for me. (Either the modem or the ISP has a DHCP server so you don't have to set an IP or anything on your xbox)

only if you have a modem

I don't think we're both on the same page.

Charter is a television cable company, but you can purchase an internet plan from them. What he's asking is if you can take his cable that hooks up to his television, plug it into a modem to get an internet connection. Are you telling me that that's possible??

YES, as long as you pay for internet from Charter.
