Here's something interesting...

Let me restate this....

The Xbox 360's that are gonig to be released at launch will NOT have HD-DVD drives.
Xbox 360's released later on down the road will have HD-DVD drives.

There are no plans to make older 360's compatible with HD-DVD's.
They are saying games that use HD-DVD's will also be released on multiple DVD's.
That, I think, is really stupid on Microsoft's part because they are giving the people who originally buy the Xbox 360 the shaft by not having HD-DVD drives now, and no plans to retrofit them.

Oh I see, that makes a whole lot of sense now. Well all I have to say is, that is pretty dumb, but I dont think it will hurt anybody except those who have HD TV's. Sure it's slightly inconvenient to have multiple DVD's but you still get the same game. At least I hope we do. If you have an HD TV then I understand your frustration, but I dont really mind at this point. I probably wont own one for a while.

I would understand the compatability issues between the Xbox and the Xbox 360, but the same issues between the new 360 and a future 2nd gen 360 is completely stupid. Either Microsoft as a company has lost their minds, or they are making a blatant attempt at forcing their customers to buy a whole new 360 when the HD-DVD format arrives. That is unless they do fix the compatability issue.

Although it is inconvenient to have a lesser drive, it doesnt mean you cant play any of the upcoming games. Or are they going to stop producing regular DVD games once the new 360's arrive?

They are supposed to develop and sell them side-by-side (like PC games, they sell multiple CD's or one DVD). I think they will do that...but I could easliy see some inequality issues arising from this... It's not the change that bothers me, its just they aren't offering retrofitting of 1st gen 360's/ But, actually, I think alot of stores, once the HD Drive 360's come out will have deals like "Trade in your 360 and get X% off of a HD 360!"

BV, I hope you are reading this :p

slightly inconvenient is an understatement.

Think.... if a game is 20 gigs.... that will be 3 normal dvd's... or 1 hd dvd. The loading and switching between discs will suck.

Wow....I wonder how this idea got through at msoft...to the implementation stage.

That's what I am saying...switching disks SUCKS! It is just the principle of it really, in this case. I am switching disks because Microsoft did not want to risk selling the HD-Drive 360's. But the thing is, once the HD games hit the market, you will likely see alot less single DVD games...

Hopefully they will TRY to keep it smooth...like SP on one disk, multi on another...I regret this, but odds are I will either have 2 360's or sell my original to get money for an HD one. But that's cash in the bank for BV :p

Wow you guys are lazy :lol Personally, to me, switching disks isnt that much of an inconvenience. It's not like after an hour of gameplay you have to switch a disk. Oh well. :-\

It is amazing to see at least one company each generation perform an act of sheer stupidity to alienate their fan base.
Microsift has been in business long enough to know that mistakes can cost them huge in the long run.

I have no physical problem with changing the disk...it's just kinda annoying since you should not HAVE to switch them...

I traded in a perfectly good XBOX because I wanted to get the special Halo edition one. I have a fat PS2 and a slim PS2. I traded in a glacier GBA to get a platinum GBA. Then I traded in the platinum GBA to get a cobalt SP. Then I traded the cobalt SP to get a NES edition SP.

In other words, I would have no problem with trading up if it came to it and I felt that it was worth it. But then, I'm also not like most people. :lol

Now that I have thought about, I really think many video game retailers will just capitalize on this by offering to buy your current 360 for cash off of an HD-Drive one.

I think going with multiple formats is ridiculous. If they think HD-DVD's are the format for the next gen consoles, then they should push that with all their might. This "half and half" stuff just seems like their so worried they're going to alienate their audience they're trying to compromise to please as many people as possible. And once you start doing that, you end up not pleasing anyone at all.

If they don't even have confidence in the switch of format then why should we?
