I have a few dumb questions. I have not considered it untill now. How do I hook my PS2 up to play games online?? Do I have to plug it into my computer or directly into a phone line?? I am not even sure if any of my games have the ability to do so, but just for future reference. And here comes another dumb question: Can my Dreamcast still play games online?? As in are there still gamers who use it for online game play??

I dont know about the Dreamcast. But you do need to hook up your PS2 to an ethernet modem. Im not sure if you can use 56k on it. Oh and have either the ethernet adapter or a 56k one (if there is one) for the PS2 itself.

The Dreamcast actually has it's own modem. As for the PS2, I guess I could just hook it up to my computer and see what happens...

Yeah I used to play over on Seganet. But yeah try it out see if it works. But if not just hook it up to your modem it should work.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that PS2 supports 56K. I don't own a PS2 but I know there are "Broadband only" PS2 onlnie games, meaning there should be 56K games.

Just to elaborate further, the PS2 doesnt have a modem just an adapter that connects your ethernet cable to your broadband modem. which is this.

If you have that already then just ignore what I said. :p

that won't work.

If I am right... doesn't the network adaptor have a 56K part to it?

IF NOT.... you will nee broadband, AND a router.

You will see 2 ports on that... 1 is ethernet, the other is 56K modem.

The modem SHOULD be internal to that adaptor and all you will need to do is use a 4 connector style (you will see 4 copper connectors, do not use 2) phone cable.... and you can hook it right to your phone jack.

IF you have broadband and not dialup.... you will need to have a router that splits your broadband connection out to more than 1 computer... and then you will hook your ethernet cable from your ps2 to that router.

I just thought of something. Why didn't I just look at the manual in the first place???
Ares, you're on. But don't be surprised if I get my butt kicked the first few go arounds. I was 14 the last time I had someone to game with on a regular basis. My brother is a big gamer, but he lives about an hour away.
I'll check my PS2 tonight after work and see what I have to do. But thanks for the input guys!!

Dont worry Dart, I havent played online with my PS2 in a year or two ;)

It seems that all the games I like for Ps2 arent online compatible, or not any fun online IMO.

Omg, I know how to hook it up! I play online all the time with my PS2. ;)

What you need is a PS2, Network Adapter, and a ISP(Internet Service Provider). You dont have to plug it into your PC to play online unless your on a router (Basically shares internet connection with another PC) and want to share the connection between the both PC and PS2, this'll cause lag during online play though. It is possible to play online through 56k but I recconmend you to get broadband connection for the best experience. There are plenty of games that feature online play, you just have to look on the box cover to see if it features online capablities. Im not too sure about SegaNet, but I've heard that you can still play online with your DC but on private servers? I dont know..never experienced SegaNet.

Well when you get your Network Adapter it should come with a startup disc, manual, network adapter itself, a playable demo disc, and a voucher to get Twisted Metal Black: Online for free. Its really easy to set it up..I mean its like 123 and ABC, its simple.

Everytime I boot my PS2 up Im online most of the time, but I haven't been online with it for awhile now..no reason in particular. I can tell you for a fact that Socom 1 & 2 are popular online for PS2! Servers are always full! If you like racing then go with NFSU, its a decent online game..but tends to lag a little due to other people and they're crappy connection.
