I Don't Care If I Sound Bitter!Graphics Aren't Everything!

Around where I live,my brother and some of my friends are always dumping on the "Wii" because the graphics aren't as good as the other 2 systems. They're "Graphics Junkies".Personally I enjoy far more aspects in a game besides graphics.

We've all been gamers for a long time,I'm sure that some of might agree that even if a game's graphics aren't as good as others, doesn't make it inferior. As far as the "Wii" goes,it has awesome titles.Nintendo knows games.

One of my favorite games in the whole world is still "Dragon Warrior III" for the NES.There is more than a fair share of games with awesome graphics, but suck in every other aspect.I know it sounds like I'm bitter, but it really sticks in my craw when all I hear about games is the graphics, not the playability, nor the storyline.

Peace.

Yeah! I want an Omelet and all I got was a super slam breakfast! What is wrong with this country!!

Everyone dumps the Wii, it's trendy apparently. Yet they will never know the true hidden treasures of the console.

I.E. Muramasa, House of the Dead, No More Heroes, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Mad World, Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy, Zelda Twilight Princess and etc.

If graphics is all you think about it, which is a large majority of narrow minded American consumers who say the word "GRAPHICS" like they fully understand what they mean.

Like, when I hear someone complain about Left 4 Dead's graphics being an outdated Half-Life 2 engine. They are nothing more than a weak minded spider-monkey on drugs, who watches "DAWG the Bounty Hunter" religiously and worships the movie, Roadhouse. Yet, I find out they are playing the Xbox 360 edition and not the PC edition. Which is another debate, for another time (PC> Console ports).

Now, the word graphics are always thrown around like it's this magical unicorn that farts rainbows and eats skittles all day. It doesn't exist, it's just an image and only the human eye is blinded easily. You take the same game and put it on two different brands of HDTV's for example. One is always going to be brighter than the other, if you notice. Does it effect how people perceive the game? I think it does a little.

One party will say, "I couldn't see anything, it was so blurry" and the other party will say, "It was a nice picture, but I don't think it was in 480p".

No matter what you say, no matter what you think. Someone will have a different answer about how "graphics" look.

It's the story of the three blind men and the elephant all over again. Each man was told to describe what an elephant looked like since they have never encountered one and cannot see. Each man had a different story and were totally wrong. Who is right and who is to say what is right?

Your opinion matters, yet people will never agree to one thing.

Honestly, graphics are not everything, but you simply cannot deny that good graphics enhance gameplay immensely. For example think of games like RE4, Ninja Gaiden, OOT, Oblivion, etc,. The core gameplay is what made them fun, but it was the extraordinary graphics that made them so popular. So, like Spartan said, I do think they make the whole experience better. Now with that said, the most amazing graphics in the world cannot mask poor gameplay or design...

I dump on the Wii because there are very, and I do mean very, few games that I actually enjoy. I'm actually getting tired of Mario Kart and I don't really enjoy the direction the Zelda franchise is taking. And that's where most of the problems lie. There isn't much out there that is as high quality as those titles in regards to 3rd parties. Whereas the 360 and PS3 have much more quality games consistently all year round.

anyone who complains about graphics on the wii need only to take one look at Muramasa or Madword and know that it isnt always just about pixels.

agreed, Style is a bigger factor for me than graphics. as for the wii it is still my favorite console of this gen because of the games it has gotten this year and last year (funny thing is that recent games i bought/pre-ordered are not 1st party but 3rd party)

I'd have to agree. Graphics do play an integral role. However, they certainly are not at the top of my list when buying a game. To me, graphics are the icing on the cake. I go back and play old games of mine all the time. By now the graphics are absolute crap by comparison but I don't care because they are such great games. Great graphics can never make up for a bad game, but a great game can make up for less than stellar graphics.

Graphics are important, sound quality is important, play control is paramount.

If a game has mediocre graphics but wonderful sound and play control, I'll probably still play it through.

If a game has the best graphics but poor play control, I won't bother with it.

If the above game also has spectacular sound, I'll listen to the game but not play it.

Sound track!! I believe a few games hit this list as well.

I like a well rounded game the best. However, sound (music AND GFX) are more important to me than graphics. I don't know what it is... but I HATE playing a game with crappy sound.

†B†V† :hat

Grindspine hit it on the nail. Aside from Graphics and Sound. CONTROL is a big issue that's overlooked. You can have the prettiest game on the planet, but if it controls like a mini-van trapped in a mud pool, than screw it.

I don't dump on the Wii because it has bad graphics, I do so because it has bad games. :D

I play classic games all the time, and my friends and I routinely sacrifice graphical fidelity for the ability to play on the same TV. I don't even own an HDTV. But I would rather not have to sacrifice anything. Its not an either/or scenario, either good graphics are the most important aspect of a game or they don't matter at all, it's all a matter of degree and appropriateness. To what extent is the game's purpose served by better graphics, and how much am I willing to pay for it? The answer varies constantly.

Hey CreepinDeth,
What do you mean by not enjoying the direction the Zelda franchise is taking?Just curious.

Mostly repetitiveness. The game hasn't really changed since the N64 days. One of the reasons why I loved Wind Waker because it was different. Also, the game started to become a little too easy, too linear.
