Alrighty techno-geniuses. I have some isues with my computer that are seriously pissing me off. And I have no idea how to fix it.

First ever-annoying problem is the IE page "flicker." What I mean is the dark blue bar at the top sporadically turns to the light blue color (of course if I am typing, this causes the curser to disapear). No idea why.

Second ever-annoying issue is Norton likes to spontaneously do a system check. And this will also cause the security main page to suddenly pop up. Nothing wrong. No viruses. No adware. No trojans. Just a pop up to say, "Hey. I'm here and I just wanted to say that." Irritating.

Third one is some add-on periodically interferes with IE and causes the window to close. I'd like to know where this utterly useless and irritating program is so I can uninstall it. Or at least repair it if it's a needed program.

I could just say screw it and download Firefox.

I'll likely do that. But I'd also like to figure out what is the problem with IE (I know, IE is the problem!) before I jump ship. I don't want my computer to crash because of a stupid Windows application.

Okay. I just said kick rocks to IE. I downloaded Firefox. Much faster. No more issues. Problem solved!

I agree, get Firefox. It's always worked for me.

If you go into your Internet System menu, then you may be able to fix the IE checking probelm (I get this trobule when on MSN).

Download AVG. It works far better than Norton. Sorry, don't know how to stop it from doing those messages though. May be a way in its own menu. But I suggest keep that anyway, and at least let it run out of use. Tends to make good backup for AVG.

You can also buy the higher up versions, but I've done just fine on 2 computers with just the free edition.

Yea, I used AVG free for a while and liked it. Another good free one that I use now is "Avira Antivir". Both are good choices.

I would be curious on the IE version you were using and your hard ware... as well as if you had any add-ons running with IE that could do that.

I've seen that issue before (as well as some other issues)... but they were caused to Windows running out of memory.

maybe you can re-install IE. I still use IE all the time.

You need to first!

1. In your Norton set it to system check only once every 24 hours. You probably have it set to some 2 or other useless interval and it is also probably downloading security updates whenever they are released, I modified mine to only do it when I turn my PC on and about 6 hours after it is on. That way system resources arent being used and wasted. A full system check is done only when I specifiy it to do so.

2. Somehow something is wrong with your IE. I would go ahead and try to download IE 8, the newest one from the website, it should correct any other remaining issues with the browsers.

The third issue should be resolved with the second one.

I have IE, Firefox, Chrome, and Opera as browsers each one has its benefit in terms of resources and use on the PC, so it would be wise to still maintain a nice version of IE. IE is definitely low resource heavy on the newer one (when I was testing that beta over the summer for a while).

Okay, I think I figured something out. When I open up the Windows Task Manager I notice that IE is popping up, like I am trying to run it. I end the process, and it goes away for about 30 seconds, and then pops back up. Any reason why it would do this? I use Firefox only now, so there is no reason why IE would "log on."

Is it saying explorer?

If so, then explorer is a natural thing on the computerfor windows PC and doesnt go away, especially when you are searching for files, you are essentially running internet explorer in offline mode, essentially. Well thats how they explained it in my PC class.

Yeah make sure the thing you're trying to end is called "iexplore.exe" otherwise it's just windows explorer (the thing you use to go into your computer and such)

I am not sure if this will work, but it's worth a shot. Click "start" on the lower left panel, then click "run". From there type in "msconfig" and then click on the "startup" tab. Any program that is checked will automatically start with windows, so if you see anything like IE un-check it and it will not start up with windows anymore.

Nope. Not in there. Dang thing still shows up at random, and it causes the dark blue bar on the top of the page to go light blue, which of course makes the cursor disappear.
