Why is the USB cord for charging the controller so short?? :lol

I hate having to charge my controller while I'm playing because the cord is maybe like 3 feet long and I feel like I am all up close and personal with the tv. :lol

I bought a USB extension cable so I could have a little more freedom, but I just wonder why they didn't make it longer to begin with.
 
The only thing I can think of is to cut costs. Yeah, they cost only a few cents more, but when you add up the fact that you have literally produced millions of systems world wide, it adds up.
 
I sit extremely close to the TV so it's fine. I can't focus on what I'm doing if I'm far away, like on a couch. Although my TV is a 19" LCD so it's really small… :(

Good thing is, I've traded a lot of my console games for a 3DS, and a few other things, so I don't console-game that much anymore. Steam's summer sales also helped. :lol

I completely agree!!! I play my friend's PS3 all the time and the one complaint (that and PSN going down, stopping me from watching the last 3 episodes of Firefly on Netflix) I have is the cord to charge the controller. If he forgets the charge them we end up huddled on the floor two feet from the TV. :lol
 
I use to have two controllers, so I always made sure I was charging one while using the other.

Why did they do that? My guess, this:

I know you can buy Sony brand extension cables. It's like when M$oft made you buy a proprietary wireless internet adapter for $100, or proprietary hard drives, or Nintendo's nunchuk sold separately, and so forth.

Gouging, but on a smaller scale. :lol
 
USB cords are really expensive for some reason. When you buy a printer now you have to buy the USB cord separately. I think they made is short to save money and they probably didn't think that people would want to play while it was charging.
 
I don't like playing while it's charging but that's just because the cord is so short. But I'd rather play with it plugged in instead of completely shutting off the game because the controller needs to charge. I think that would be even more of an inconvenience.

I had a much longer cable... so I haven't had this problem. BUT I received a cable with 1 headset I bought and it wa only 2-3 feet long. I lost my longer USB cable once and tried using that... I made it work :lol
