Activision, Vivendi, Lucasarts, and now id Software have all left the ESA. If this continues, and developers keep dropping out of the ESA, I'd say E3 is pretty much finished.

While ID dropped out of the ESA they're still attending E3 (last time I checked). It's kind of a shame to see E3's future in doubt, but other important industry trade shows will emerge to fill in the gap.
