I love the "To Catch A Predator" Series. It serves those jerks right for the mental harm they inflict on innocent children for their own gratification.I heard that some time ago there was a very legally controversial episode that took place in Texas I think. What I don't know is what the controversy was,I think I missed that episode.I'm very curious to know what it was,so I figured you guys might know what it was about.

P.S. What are your thoughts on the Series,do you like it as well?I think it's a very important show, how about you?

God bless.

I'm not sure the exact details, but I do know it was because one of the perpetrator was caught by Dateline and he then proceeded to commit suicide. Because of this, NBC was investigated on how they handled the show. Apparently they didn't follow the rules of city on how to apprehend the perpetrators. They were eventually sued by the sister of the person who committed suicide.

I think it's a great show and definitely entertaining to watch scumbags get what they deserve, but they should have been better prepared considering you never know when someone will just go crazy and start an even bigger mess. Especially now that the show has gotten even more attention, I think most predators are going to be more alert. They should keep doing what they're doing, but they shouldn't televise it so often.

Thank you CreepinDeth,I always wondered what that controversy was about exactly."I'm Chris Hansen With Dateline NBC" The most dreaded 6 words those punks could ever hear.I can just hear their stomachs churning in pain we Chris walks out to surprise them.

On a lighter note, did you happen to see the episode in which the 2 next door neighbors showed up at the house looking for their friends who owned the place, with absolutely no idea that Dateline was renting it? :lol :lol

i'm distgusted by the fact that it is used as a type of entertainment, but, that being said, what they're doing is good.

I don't watch it. I don't see the point of making a TV show from that.

I'm sure if you spoke to a Mother or Father whose child was violated in the most malevolent of ways,if they think that the show is pointless, you'd get a pretty nasty response. If that show kept even one of those monsters from mentally and physically crippling a child,to me that stands out as a great point.

God bless.

I think what fhq means is that there's probably a lot better ways to deal with predetors then to throw them on a TV show.

That, and his trademark line is an Internet fad now whenever the word "pedopehlia" pops up somewhere.

Like Nova said, there are far better ways of dealing with pedophiles than putting them on TV so you can get better ratings.

Hi Homicidal Cherry53,

Ratings or not, better ways to help fight this atrocity or not, that's not the point. The point is that efforts are being made to combat this truly disgusting crime, what difference does it make which way we go about it.Any help however little does matter, even if all this saves just one child from a therapy bound life,to me that's what counts.

TV crusaders care more about ratings than helping people. The people always come second.
That is why I don't think they are anywhere close to the right people to be handling this situation. Anyone attempting to stop predators should have helping their victims as their first priority. If they have any ulterior motives, I don't think they should be trying to stop these people.

The way we go about it makes a HUGE difference. Like I said earlier, if we televise, we can actually make criminals smarter by having them know the tactics that are being used. Law enforcement is supposed to be one step ahead of them, not let them get one step ahead of law enforcement.

If matters aren't handled correctly, things might get worse than just having that one child have therapy for the rest of his life, that child could end up dead. Which is why it really matters how these stings are handled.

It also just seems wrong that some people (Chris Hansen) are capitalizing on other people's misfortune. They exploit the horror some people have to live through in order to make money, and in the process they actually try to make themselves look like morally upstanding individuals.

They are doing a job that needs to be done, but in one of the most self-fulfilling ways.

You do realize they're perfectly capable of catching predators without making it a TV show, right?

Hi fhqwhgads,I am aware of that, but you can never get too much help when it comes to this subject.

People watching it don't magically become able to do it themselves. Nothing changes when it's a TV show except maybe money.

The show essentially started out as a way to get into the minds of these lowbrows and see why they do what they do. Ratings went up, yes. But whether Chris Hansen or NBC want ratings only, it doesn't matter. They fill the jails with people intent on child molestation. I guess I form my opinion that I don't care if they want ratings only because I have three kids. I have a daughter who has a very trusting personality. And rather than break her of this quality, I choose to protect her from these people who wish to exploit a child's natural tendency to trust adults as people who know right from wrong.

Seriously, if any father were to step into Chris Hansen's shoes for one episode, it will get ugly. I wish I could say what I'd do...

I think that its good that a show is getting these people off the streets... even if it is for ratings.

And although these people are sick and perverse i do feel bad for the most of them. Because the vast majority of people who become sex offenders where abused themselves when they where children. =(
