Is the Nintendo Corporation run by financial geniuses?

It is a question that you have to ask. I have heard that for a company like Microsoft or Sony to make a PS3 or 360 it cost them around 200 bucks more than what they sell them for then make it back in game sales but then on the other hand Nintendo makes about a 40 dollar profit off of every Wii they sell. I mean that is probably why they have lasted for so much longer than any other video game company (not counting the fact that they have been around since late 1890's). I also noticed that they are reaching out to other audiences than just the mid to late teens like the other consoles. I hear 6 year olds and their grandparents talking to each other about how they both love to play Wii sports and Brain Age together where I never really hear than being said about the other consoles. I guess that is why the company can be still around after all these years and be able to take risks with innovative features some bad (virtual boy) and some awesome the Wii. That's why you have to ask the question is the Nintendo Corporation run by financial geniuses?

In my opinion, what is keeping them afloat is their handheld department. If they didn't have that then Nintendo wouldn't be as strong as it is right now. It's what gives them the chance to experiment and reach out to those audiences. The real genius is the creator of the Game Boy. Nintendo owes quite a bit to him.

Yup, that more than just keeps them afloat.

Wasn't his name like Gunpei Yokoi or something like that that invented the Game Boy. Then I thought I heard something on G4 that they fired him because he was the one that came up with the Virtual Boy...

I think they just gave him a different title and made him move to another department. I do know he was tragically killed in a car accident though.

Microsoft and Sony sell their systems at a loss to offer more power on the system at reasonable prices. The 360 would cost as much as a PS3 if they were to profit off of it. Anyways, the money in video games isn't made off of hardware sales, it is made from software sales.

Unless you're Nintendo. They actually do because they can. If MS and Sony could sell their consoles at even lower prices they would, but that would just bad business and even profit from software wouldn't be able to save them.
