its not that i am a bad person, but my friends seem to have to worst luck right now. on monday my old boss was in a fight with his girlfriend and she accidentally slammed his hand in the car door (seriously it was an accident). it took off the tip of his ring finger and he had to have surgury on tuesday to get it fixed. then today in between jobs i got a call from my wife. a friend i used to work with came in this morning saying his chest hurt. they brought him to the hospitol to find out he had a heart attack. the guy is 22 years old and he had a damn heart attack. that is just blowing my mind right now. apparently it was pretty minor so he is going to be OK for now, but it scared the hell out of me.

yeah thank god they are both OK. the weirdest part is that the guy who had the heart attack doesn't drink, smoke, or do drugs. from what i have seen his diet is healthier than mine. the only thing i can think of is stress. guess its kind of a wake up call for me. i gotta take better care of myself.

Just be safe. You can't live your life in the dark and be so afraid of something happening, you know? If you just look out for yourself, but don't become paranoid about it, that's the best thing you can do. :)

well i'm not going to go hide in the corner and suck my thumb afraid of life, but i could certainly stand to quit smoking. maybe eat a little healthier and go get a check up at a doctor. haven't been to a doctor in years

There you go. Just make some healthy changes like that and you're set.

Yeah, it's better to start small with one or two things and keep working at it. If you try to change too much at once, you're likely to get overwhelmed and not go through with any of it.

but when you quit smoking dont use a patch or none of that
and dont go cold turkey

its like heroine
, you freak out real bad

That sounds like an awesome idea.

I wonder how that one dude had a heart attack though...maybe he had a defect in his heart er something and just did not know it? I know stress can cause heart trouble...but that just sounds extremely weird for someone his age. You're sure he doesn't do any drugs? Man, that is just so odd. I am glad he is gonna be ok though. I bet he was scared out of his mind!

----and maybe it is a good time to be your friend...since they both seem to be getting through their troubles ok?

I remember last year there was one week where three soccer players had heart attacks on the field. Their ages ranged from 20-23, and as athletes they were all in peak physical condition. 2 of them died I believe.

I guess any prolonged stress on your body or sudden shocks could trigger something like that. Like Strubes said, aside from exerting common sense and making some smart choices, this isn't necessarily a "wake up call" as much as it might be a "friendly reminder."

Glad to hear everyone's ok though.

Yea and just to be safe, quit those cigs! Because those little dang things CAN give you a heart attack at just about any age. I quit last year and it was the best thing I've ever done.
