Junk? But it's a fun game!

Check this out, I have a PSX game. Destruction Derby 2. Fun game. Problem. My son loaded into my PS2 last night, and the controllers didn't work. A "Searching for controller" box popped up. But no action. So I pulled the game out, and stuck it in Ol' Gray. Same thing. The controllers would not register. I put in a different game in both the PSX and PS2, and everything worked fine. This never happened before. Anyone know what may be going on?

It could be the Dreamcast is jealous because I also play a lot of Demolition Racer: No Exit.

I know this might be a long shot, but scratched disc?

For the attempt on the PS2, I first used the black PS2 controller, and then I switched to the gray PS1 controller. For the PSX, I used the gray controller. I had an aftermarket controller, but the last time I tried using it on any game, it didn't work on the PSX. It never worked for the PS2.

Creepin', I checked the disk, and didn't see any scratches.
