Well VIOLENT video games cause a rise in cortisol during play and for a short time afterwards. I know this for a fact because I have seen it and felt it. An immediate effect of this can be increased aggression for a short period.

(really though the guys doing the shootings are usually on an antidepressant which can really mess up your brain. If you ask me they should ban the antidepressant drugs. dang money grubbing pharm companies)

i'm gonna agree with you

This is COMPLETELY ridiculous. We have problems deeply rooted in society, yet we look for a convenient and false answer. Instead of blaming violence on a lack of parental supervision or an increase in drug use in children (drug use may not seem completely connected to violence, but when under the influence, people do some strange things). I don't understand why people assume that violent media like this actually causes people to be violent. Maybe we should start trying to fix the major problems instead of trying to place the blame firmly upon a single scape goat that has little actual affect on violence.

all i know is that if the media blames video games enough and if hilary clinton(god forbid)gets elected we most likely will lose video games for a short period of time(cuz we all know sure as hell that we wont lose video games for more than at least 6 months)

You take that and mix it with a psychopath, a sociopath or someone suffering from mental illness and add in a dose of rage, the suggestibility is too high

Psychopaths and sociopaths will go off anyway...

I know from experience. I have worked in a clinical psych ward and have a degree in psych. Dr. phil is full of it.

Argh! You're right, video games are always being blammed for violence. Geeze. Doesn't Dr Phil see that the poeple are obviously 'unstable' and depressed or really angry to beggin with anyway? So video games can stimulate the nerves in the brain that cause increased aggression, but hey, that only lasts for a short while anyway. And for those who get REALLY angry and go beserk because of videogames, thats because they are unstable, like I said. It's just a bloody game. It can't cause death of people, just the morons who weild the weapon.

Actually Hilary Clinton can't ban video games because that would go against freedom of expression. SHe would probably try to stop M rated games from being sold at retailers (like AO games are) and make it near impossible for kids to get M rated games.

Personally I don't have a problem with them making it harder for 12 year old kids to get M rated games.

I don't disagree with that, but it should be up to the PARENT, not Hilary Clinton.

Why is our government constantly trying to regulate things that are bad for us? If the person is an adult, it should be up to them to decide what they should do and if it's a child, it should be up to the parents or legal guardians.

I've finally found out its not the video games that influenced the killer......it was that korean movie called Old Boy. I got this off of Wikipedia so read down here.......
Oldboy

The Virginia Tech Massacre Controversy
In April 2007, Oldboy weathered controversy in the American press over a possible connection to the Virginia Tech Massacre. Between the shootings he committed in the residential hall and the shootings he committed in the classrooms, Cho Seung-hui sent videos and photos of himself to the American news channel, NBC. Two of the photos drew comparisons to Oldboy promotional images: a picture of Seung-hui's holding a hammer; and one of his holding a pistol to his head. According to Sky News, detectives claim Seung-hui watched the film repeatedly just prior to the massacre.

videogames.....are simply games. its not like i want to play Gears of War BECAUSE its gory, its just simply fun to play. i dont see politicians attacking tennis or basketball!

when they see a game, they automatically look for the worst thing in it. i will not support hilary even 1%, she does not belong in office. period.

Videogames are not the cause of violence, mmkay. Can they cause someone to have an increased sense of aggression?? Maybe. But that's only temporary, mmkay. Humans have been hacking eachother to death since the dawn of time. The only difference is technology. I doubt that cave parents banned cave art because junior was bludgeoning his friends with boulders, mmkay. Violence is in anyone's genetic makeup. Especially if there's a lot of testosterone running through their bodies. It's sad that people have to be tought to be nice because being evil is so easy, mmkay.

Dr. Phil is just another Jack Thompson with a degree in deciphering ink blots. An idiot who gets paid to listen to the problems of other idiots. His opinion is worthless. Only politicians and dingy housewives will listen to his psychononsense. As people who actually "get the big picture", we are obligated to debunk his "expert opinion" and prevent politicians who change opinions when the wind changes direction (like Hillary) out of office.

The end. Mmkay.

EDIT- AGAIN

I read the article and noticed something that even these iidiot "experts" don't realize. They say that videogames are to blame. But add in other factors that to me seem like the root cause. Lack of parental input (I think I have been saying that all along), schools not dealing with bullying. socioeconomic problems, etc. Videogames are not the root cause. It's possible that it could be the icing on the cake, but the other issues are the cake.

The Columbine killings could have been avoided entirely if school officials got off their butts and did something about the constant harrassment that the two kids recieved. At home, I am sure that their parents were not involved, being all the ammunition that they had in their rooms.

And just like the Virginia Tech shootings. We have a kid who was picked on and beat up because he was quiet, shy and didn't speak English very good. From middleschool to college, every day was the same. Being pushed out of every social group is even more damaging than videogames.

I don't know what's worse, having an abused person taking out his rage on the people who treated him horribly, or the moron "experts" who blame shift to gloss over the real problem.

Probably both. The kid's emotions flew out and stupidity flew out from the "experts".BTW.....Doe anyone here actually support Hillary Clinton or Dr. Idiot Mcgraw?
(phil mcgraw gives my family's last name a HORRIBLE name!!

Meh... I've learned to ignore 'em. I won't stop playing the games I enjoy. I don't enjoy overly gory games like Gears of War, and I don't enjoy games like GTA... but I do enjoy games like Halo. For fellowship, community, and fun. Not for practicing manslaughter. >__>

Dart hit the nail on the head there.  They can add icing to the cake, but they aren't what makes up the whole thing.

I remember reading a book on this, showing both sides of the arguement (as well as others based on videogames, like how females always seem voluptous and males overly muscular, etc.).

One that brought intrest, was the first one, the basic thing, saying that vviolent video games such as Doom and Quake were the causes of things such as Columbine (the book was published around the N64 - PSX days), saying that the games train players to go into rooms dealing only headshots and finishing everything off quickly.

What the opposing point said, and what made me laugh the most went something like this:

"I doubt the previous author has even played Quake before.  Quake doesn't have positional damage (whatever it's called, where chest shots do more damage then leg shots, etc.) and therefore, it wouldn't help the player one way or another in training for shooting.  The same can be said with Doom"

Something like that at least. I don't have the book with me, as it was from my High School.

If the shooter really said that he wanted to die "like Jesus Christ, to inspire generations of the weak and the defenseless" then why don't they blame the Bible? Jack Thompson, Hillary Clinton and Dr. Phil are vultures.

The two kids responsible for Columbine were never outcast. That's a a total myth (I know I watch some special on it like a week ago). They weren't targeting the people who bullied them (because there weren't any) they just wanted to kill people. They were just DEEPLY disturbed kids. That being said, there were several warning signs missed. One kid wrote a story about some guy in a trench coat shooting up a school.
