The wait is almost over for the follow up to one of the best action titles to have been released in this console generation. The game I am referring to, is Lost Planet 2. You can also refer to the game as Lost Planet squared, because the content has more than doubled since the last time we strapped ourselves in a VS suit. All the over the top action is back, because the game will put you into many different locales. One moment you find yourself fighting a giant Akrid in the desert who comes out of the sand, then the next moment you could be deep in the lush "rain forest like" jungle fighting more giant Akrids.

One of the main draws of the first game were the intensity and scale of the enemies. This time that feeling of scale has been outdone tremendously. After seeing some of the footage of these huge shadow of the colossus type enemies, I could only wonder how you would defeat them in a single player campaign. I am guessing that is why they have included cooperative play in this version. You and up to 4 of your friends can team up to take down the giant menaces, via 2 player local split screen, or 4 player Co-Op via Xbox Live or PSN.

The VS suits return in this game, and that will become a huge part on how you get around the environments. (Or survive, for that matter) Capcom has also stated that some of the suits will be enhanced for 2 players to take control at the same time.

The gameplay has been much improved too. No longer are you fighting to regain a constantly draining thermal energy meter, Capcom has done away with possibly the worst part of the first game and this change is sure to streamline the intense 3rd person action. One of the biggest complaints that I personally had about the first game, was the multiplayer experience. The game was originally released with a pretty bland multiplayer with limited weapons and some boring maps.

Capcom tried to remedy this by releasing another version of the game (Lost Planet: Colonies Edition), but it negated the purchase of the original by not allowing players who invested in the first to battle online with the Colonies Edition players. The Colonies Edition enhanced the versus modes, and gave more character options, as you could play as the Akrids in versus mode(s).

Lost Planet 2 borrows from that and modernizes the multiplayer experience by adding character customization and a leveling up system based on your time playing the game. You will be able to upgrade weapons and gear, along with the look of your character.

Speaking of characters, Lost planet 2 will also feature some special guest appearances from other Capcom franchises, such as; Frank West from Dead Rising, and Albert Wesker from Resident Evil. Additionally Marcus and Dom from Gears of War will be joining in on the fun, as well as an "unnamed character model" from Monster Hunter.

Lost Planet 2 looks to be an early Game of the Year contender for sure. So be sure to check back with us at Gamerfill.com for a full review of the game once it is released. Until then, check out the video that Julian has put together exclusively for your entertainment.
