Media Blockout

I might have mentioned this before, or maybe I just thought about mentioning it, but whatever the case, I am embarking on a media blockout for the new Zelda. I think that part of the reason why OOT was such a great game (or at least better than MM) was because I went into OOT not knowing a single thing about the game, and thus it blew away any possible expectations. Based on this logic, I want the new Zelda to be everything it can be and more. Aside from the trailer I haven't seen a thing on it, even the new pictures posted a week or so ago. In order for this to work I need you guys to make sure that any new footage or information on the game is clearly stated so that I can avoid it. Thank you for aiding my quest for gaming Nirvana.

On a less self-centered sidenote, have any of you ever successfully achieved a media blockout of a certain game?

yes :lol I blindly buy most of my games... no kidding.

I might look at a review score.....
but beyond that.... I like to buy most of my games without seeing a lot on them.

I bought 50% of my collection without seeing anything on them at all (IE Gamecube games).
I just saw the title and wanted to try it out.... so I did. I ended up liking more games that way... and its sort-of fun to have a mystery.

I don't think I've ever completey blocked out a game. The only thing I can think of recently is actually sort of Halo 2, where unlike everyone else (it seems) I didn't know about either the Arbiter or the Flood.

For the most part, I have been successful at staying away from Resident Evil 4 media. I've mostly just read articles here and there and I did play the demo. But it was the same one from E3, so technically it wasn't anything I hadn't already seen.

I think your idea is a good one, though. I might block myself from watching any more Zelda media.

You don't have much to worry about Steath, Nintendo has always kept every game very much in yhe dark. We will be lucky to see much at all...
that was sarcasm, right?

Actually, I think he was being serious. And I do agree with you, Nintendo likes to "safeguard" all their games, but that's still not enough. I don't want to know the plot, characters involved, setting, or anything about the game. I know the game is being made, and I know it has gorgeous graphics, and beyond that I don't want to know any more until I load it up in my Gamecube.

I also knew nothing about Ocarina of Time until I played it myself, and neither did any of my friends. I was also the first of my friends to get the game (meaning for a while I was officially "god" :p). And it does make a way better experience like that. As much as I enjoyed Metriod Prime and Wind Waker, I think I would of enjoyed it more had I not read into them before their releases, and chatted about them in forums...just had my own experience. But of course, I also can't NOT share my thoughts with people about games, so it's a vicious circle.

Fortunately, there are currently so many games that i'm looking forward to that some of them are getting blocked out as i've either heard no-one talk about them or just haven't bothered to look into them myself. Star Ocean 3 and Baiten Kaitos for example.

man... Nintendo does the media blitz strategically.

They release more info than any other company.... and they are the hype kings as well :)

Hey.... that new Zelda is looking MIIIGGGHTY fine!

But back to the topic.... I normally buy games without looking much into them. I just like trying stuff out.

IE I love Defender. people say its mediocre.. but man what a fun game it was IMO.
Cubivore is another one... odd but cool.

I didn't know anything on Phantasy Star online when I bought it for the cube...etc

You're kidding right? I've seen 2 commercials for the Nintendo DS, altogether. I was scarcely aware it was even out, save for Mai posting her thoughts about it. MP2, I saw one commercial. If Nintendo does a media blitz, then Microsoft and Sony do media blitzkriegs

man.... it must be my location then.  The DS is all over here.

All Nintendo's products are promoted pretty well here.... sans 3rd party games.

You always see a flurry of Nintendo ads here when a nintendo game comes out.

NOW... Stores do not promote that as much though. best buy is pretty much Hypeless for Nintendo

Nintendo is easily the less hyped nowadays. This year i've only seen Metroid Prime 2 advertised for the Cube.

GBA doesn't do too badly hype wise, but will that change once the PSP is around? I think so.

Crap... I saw a load of ads for Pikmin 2(TV commercials), MEtroid Prime 2 (TV commercials), and I saw the most for Paper Mario 2..... this game had a commercial every commercial break on Nickelodeon.

Maybe you just don't pay attention to the other systems.  :p

No... :lol I pay attention to about everything.

In fact, *HERE* there were more Mario RPG commercials than the new GTA.

I didn't see too many GTA commercials either. Could've been because I watched about 5 minutes of TV in the past month, but who knows :p

I did see some PM2 commercials, I didn't see any Pikmin 2 commercials. In fact, the only ones I've really seen were Halo 2 and Call of Duty: Finest Hour.

I didn't see as many Pikmin 2 as PM2, but there were  A LOT of Pikmin 2 ads around here... displays..etc.

Metroid Prime 2... not as much as either the above.

Mario party 5, zelda ww, and a few others were highly advertised as well ( a couple weeks before launch).

oh yeah... there were a ton of mario pinball (GBA) ads as well.

I don't know about you guys, but I certainly see a lot of Nintendo ads.
