Now it will play everything else, but it won't play KOF 98 or Real Bout Fatal Fury 2. Anyone ever heard of this happening?

My Dreamcast did that once with a Sonic game. Played everything else but that game. Turned out that it for some reason thought it was a boot or something and couldn't read the security code. Could be a dirty lens??

How do you clean a dirty lens?

CD Drive cleaner from an electronics store. You could also use a cu-tip and gently brush the lens. Generally you are just trying to remove dust so you don't need chemicals.

Not sure if it works on all consoles, but CD system cleaners work well. They are just a regular audio CD that has a brush strip on them.

The laser was jammed inside the machine, and I had to take a q-tip, and free it up so that it could run smoothly along its normal track.

Do you want to detail exactly how you did that? or what it took?

It really is pretty simple. I actually have to do it every time I want to play KOF 98 or Real Bout 2. The laser sits all the way at the bottom end or distal end for those who know medical terms. You have to take the q-tip, and only a q-tip because you don't want to scratch the laser, and push on the back of the platform that the laser sits on. If you push hard enough, it will eventually give, and then start to move freely up and down like on a tread mill. I then move the laser to about the middle or the dyaphysis of a long bone, and pop KOF 98 or Real Bout 2 in and it loads up no problem.

I am really not sure why the laser keeps getting mis-alighned, but it is a really simple fix. Its like blowing on your carts.
